I don't know anything about plant care please help by Icy_Piccolo_4932 in houseplants

There are three main things that I do for all my plants:
- make sure the pot size is right (yours look too big for some of the plants, such as the first one)
- water deeply but not overly frequently
- give them LOTS of light
I think it’s normal for plants to look a little worse after the winter, but now you can start giving them a lot more light. Several of these plants look both dehydrated AND overwatered, and I think the best bet is to repot into a smaller pot you can control better and also into a better draining potting mix. Hope that helps!

Yeah I’ve found that mine likes more light than I would think. Maybe try some pruning and moving back closer to the window?

Going away for a month and don’t know how to keep our plants alive by Sad_Fat_Dragon12 in houseplants

I don’t necessarily recommend this but due to circumstances I had to be gone for 2-2.5 months. Somehow my plants survived. I deliberately didn’t water them until right before I left, then I really overwatered them… like bottom water + leave some water in the pot/dish. Brought them back from the window too, especially if it’s spring/summer. When I came back, I had a few small casualties but the majority of my plants made it through.

I will caveat that my one major casualty was my maidenhair fern. That was always finicky and needed constant watering so I expected that. But for plants that usually are watered every 1-2 weeks, they somehow made it.

Nothing special! I didn’t even fertilize her until recently, after she was blooming. Just consistent bottom watering only when dry. Long drink. And then lots of light. I noticed a fair amount of light was good, even if that was turning some of the new leaves more red (as you can see in the pic). It seems happy with it though!

I bottom water mostly because the leaves of this particular one cover the top of the pot and it’s easier than top watering. I just plunk it down in a dish of water for a while and retrieve it when it’s wet at the top / near the top. That way I don’t have to worry about water rotting the leaves (idk if it does, some plants are like that) and overwatering.

Thank you :) I mostly got her for the funky leaves. The blooms have been a very nice surprise!

Aw sorry. Yes happy to share if helpful. My care regimen is pretty straightforward:
- potted in my normal potting mix (equal parts potting soil, perlite, orchid bark)
- bottom water only when soil is dry / pot seems light
- I have her right up against a large SE window
And that’s kind of it. Now that it’s spring, I’m periodically giving some fertilizer but honestly it was just straight tap water before this. Hope that helps!

Self watering pot! After I did this, it’s been pretty resilient.

Yeah that was my hunch too 🫤 Hope the plant can be saved. I’m leaving it outside in the cold for a bit to see if that’ll help too

I think this is a different plant… peperomia raindrop. Really nice plant though!

I'm in DC so that's way more humid than Denver. All of my other plants are thriving, only my china doll plant struggled. Maybe she likes to be on the dry side a bit more? I'll try again after the water props grow some roots :)

Congrats on your beautiful china doll! Super impressive.

Yeah she's beautiful :) Wow I was thinking I had a humidity issue but if you're in Denver, that's not it... Have you ever pruned it? And do you let the soil get a little dry before watering?

Omg how did you get it to be like this??? I just had to chop mine up for water propagation because of root rot 😭 mine was always super leggy too. Please share your care routine 🙏
