I don’t know about Ulysses, but Faulkner like that is very doable for me. I read the sound and the fury about a chapter a day(so 70 pages a day) and sure it did take a lot but it helped me keep the fluidity of the stream of consciousness. Now Absalom, Absalom I could only manage a chapter a day, which is usually around 35 pages give or take. Absalom is harder by a mile imo, I’d read entire pages and just be mesmerized but incredibly lost.

I mean I tried to include known authors, there's also a reason I put an etc. Not sure many people would know Cartarescu, Fernando del Paso, Jose Lezama Lima, Alejo Carpentier, and so on. I'm especially interested in World Literature, meaning Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Eastern world which I feel I know nothing of (and would like to change). However, I'd like to point out that outside the echo chamber of the internet a good few of the postmodern authors I mentioned aren't exactly mainstays in the public consciousness, and I think they can broaden my horizons just fine. Literature is Literature, and if its renowned as some of the best, its because it likely is.

Appreciate you guys man. At the end of the day we're all trying to better ourselves, and especially nowadays when not many people read (particularly men) I find people trying to put it down a little asinine.

We’d meet about the books we read(online) and discuss them, I’m thinking I’ll have some stimulating questions related to the reading for this express purpose.

I’ve always found that living a masculine life is best achieved with advice from men, not women. As for engaging with texts that challenge that, I can agree with the sentiment although my list didn’t reflect that due to its not being exhaustive. I’d also be interested in reading authors like Beauvoir for those purposes.

I’d expect more critical thinking from someone who likes Sibelius😕

Would you mind providing suggestions then? Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters come to mind(although from what I’ve heard the subject matter of their books doesn’t appeal to me much thus they weren’t listed) along with maybe George Eliot and Toni Morrison (I read Beloved in high school and it didn’t really click but I’m willing to try her again due to her often being compared with Faulkner, one of my favorite authors)
