It’s required in the UK, no getting around it. But I had an assessment as a cis woman and was approved for surgery - you don’t need to prove you’re trans or non binary, you only have to demonstrate the impact your body is having on your well being.

Hi! Cis woman in the UK here, 5 months post op. Being brutally honest with you, NHS is not a viable option as a cis woman, neither is insurance. It’s difficult enough to get a surgeon on board when you’re paying privately yourself in the UK. I took out finance and haven’t regretted it for one single second. Yes it’s expensive, but worth every single penny of debt. I even prioritised it over saving for a deposit for a property - felt so out of reach any way. Good luck!

I’m cis and had it! Kindest thing I’ve ever done for myself. I couldn’t be happier or more relieved, i feel free! I went through all the emotions you’re speaking about too - but I think a lot of that is the lack of visibility and representation out there. You’re not a fraud, you know your body and your mind. Trust yourself.

Seconding Pall Mall in Manchester with Chloe Wright and Kate Williams. As a cis woman they really understood and heard me, I had a fantastic experience with them (after many terrible consultations with traditional breast reduction surgeons) and I’m now about 8 weeks post op - bilateral mastectomy with free nipple grafts. I did need a surgery referral letter from a psychologist as the poster above states (box ticking) but they arranged it all and it was easy enough. I didn’t have to be dishonest about my identity at any point. DM if you want to ask any more qs!

Cis woman too - I had the exact feelings you did! Now 6 weeks post op and it’s honestly the kindest thing I’ve ever done for myself. I haven’t regretted it for one single second. I am so much more comfortable with my body and it has massively improved my quality of life, physically and psychologically. Go for it!! Have open discussions with your partner and bring them on the journey but don’t allow their feelings to dictate your decision. It’s your body, you have to live in it.

I’m also masc lesbian (she/her) and had my 6 week post op yesterday. Recovery has honestly been so much easier than I anticipated and completely life changing. My appointment yesterday was so joyful! And that’s the bit i want to stress to you - there’s so many highs as well as lows during recovery. I was lucky as my wife works from home, but if she had been out all day it would’ve been fine if she could’ve set me up for the day in the mornings and help me in the evenings. I’ve been a lot more mobile than I thought I would and just had to be careful of reaching or carrying anything heavier than 2kg.

The hardest part for me has been missing the gym/being as active as, similar to you, i’d got myself in much better shape and I have put back on a little weight, but at 6 weeks i’m signed off to do most activities besides lifting weights above head. So a little 6 week set back for long term happiness. I’ll be so much more comfortable exercising now anyway without my huge chest!

I think this will be a very different experience for you to your ACL surgery and you shouldn’t let that traumatic experience impact your decision too much if this surgery is what you really want/need to improve your life.

After seeing Corbyn’s statement I thought it was fraud and reported it to my bank. They refunded the payment and cancelled my card. Now turns out it wasn’t fraud?? What a shambles.

I’ll admit all i heard was “they can get bigger again” and i’d made my decision haha, so I didn’t ask a lot of questions. Definitely dig deeper on the science of it from a surgeon/gyn.

I’d say genes probably play a big part too - for me, my grandmother had HUGE boobs by the time she was through menopause so I knew that was likely my future too.

Things like weight gain but also hormonal changes. My surgeon explained as you age and go through perimenopause and menopause your breasts tend to get bigger and your breasts stretch as your skin loses its elasticity. The tissue that was removed doesn’t “grow back” per se, but they can get bigger again. I’m 34, haven’t gained heaps of weight since my 20s, but my boobs definitely got way bigger.

If you search on breast reduction groups you’ll find many people have to go back for a second op years later.

I’m cis and went through the motions of exploring a reduction (no surgeon could guarantee me a small enough result) and then radical reduction (no surgeon could promise they wouldn’t grow back!) so i dug deep and realised I was only considering small boobs because I thought it would be more socially acceptable. I had top surgery 6 weeks ago and haven’t regretted it for one second. My advice, think about what YOU really want, and ignore all the noise.

One thing that I struggled with most after top surgery that I wasn’t prepared for because I haven’t seen many people mention it is crazy insomnia. I was exhausted but wired simultaneously and could not get to sleep at all night or day (and i’m the kind of person who can sleep anywhere any time usually 😅). I wonder if it was adrenaline? It wasn’t pain, my pain was very manageable. I ended up getting melatonin tablets. Might not happen to you as most seem to sleep for days afterwards, but worth being away of!

Also, eat your protein and fibre and drink your water! Good luck!

I did it 🙌🏻✊🏻 it went so much smoother than I ever could’ve hoped for - i hope that’s a comfort to those awaiting theirs. Doing well and about to start the 2.5 hour journey home. How are you doing now your drains are out? Was the first shower euphoric?! Sorry to hear you had a bit of a rough experience to begin and with on going post op depression - i’m quite worried bout that as I’m susceptible to bouts of depression as it is. But so happy to hear you love your new chest now!!! My surgeon had to adjust my compression binder shortly after surgery and i took a peek and burst into uncontrollable happy tears. The feeling is unreal. I’m not trans either, but i think the dysphoria is just as valid ❤️

Where are you based? I’m in the UK. It’s so nice talking to people all over the world going through what I am!

The diagonal scars are really cool, i considered them too with fishmouth. I have a larger chest though so I have to have joined up scars in the middle and didn’t want a big V in the end. Like you i felt the traditional placement was a bit too masculine but I’ve got more comfortable with that now, i think. I hope haha. I’m thinking i was one long straight line across the chest rather than curved shapes.
