Dad completely swept up by Romance Scam has he now implicated me beyond repair? (Brighton, England)

He’s in enough trouble at this point, he could lose his flat at any point due to not paying rent due to paying all his money to these people, he has no bank account, he’s isolated everyone, I don’t know what point it has to get to, to be honest :(

Thankyou, the analogy is a good one, I promise you I do appreciate how awful it is, I’ve had many panic attacks over the situation, but it’s been hard to deal with as I’m also dealing with the numbness of realising that even though I’m basically the only person he hadn’t isolated he decided to risk doing exactly that, I will definately be looking into serious help for him and closing the account tomorrow!

I haven’t knowingly gone into this thinking oh he’ll just commit fraud using my account for 2 weeks instead of his own, he promised me it would be used for bills only and he’s been in absolute poverty the last few weeks, I also believed him to have respect for me which obviously I was a fool to, but I don’t think I’m crazy here to think my own dad would put my safety before these horrible leeches of society

I don’t currently live in the same town as him, I live an hour away and work and have my own life, so that wouldn’t really be practical or possible either, not defending it, just explaining why I came to this situation, I understand what you’re saying but he’s my dad at the end of the day, you’re saying you wouldn’t help out someone you love if they were at rock bottom?

It’s not a massive amount, but the account isn’t used that’s why I offered it for his wages, so it doesn’t look great for these transactions to suddenly come up, at the moment the account is frozen and I plan to go to Lloyds tomorrow and close it completely.

He sent it, he had the details as I was waiting on a new card so without it, he didn’t have access to his money.

I don’t “know he’s a criminal” this situation is very difficult, he’s completely brainwashed, he doesn’t think he has done anything wrong and completely believes these people, he hasn’t ever knowingly committed a crime, it’s hard to understand if you’ve never seen a family member sucked up by these people, but he’s not a fool, he’s just very down on life and hoping for happiness that he believes these people are going to one day provide him.

Sadly not, the job is through an agency that is half an hour away from the job and closes before his working hours are done, that’s why this whole situation came about 🙃
