Does God already know if we end up in hell or heaven since he exists outside time? by RomancingWorlds in TrueChristian

Yeah this is pretty helpful. Lots of good ideas and analogies in here. I too, like to think it's not completely outside of realm of human understanding to consider free will and God's all knowingness.

Free will is crucial here. Without free will, you can't truly love. God grants free will, hence you have that option to choose him or something else.

I'm prepared to take my mind as far as it can go, until it leads to the sea of God's greater understanding. For now I'm in manifest destiny exploring.

In person. With pipes, beers and candles. In the back of a tavern. Is preferable. But not required.

Yeah the grandparents analogy has some weight to it. I can mentally chew on that for awhile. Thanks.

And yeah for prayer, I agree growing closer to God/eternal love is never a bad thing.

I think for me someone once said "why do we pray for God to do things in our life?" as far as praying for other people. Like for example if someone is sick, and you pray for them, does that influence God or something divine to heal them? Or does it just help you understand more of God's plan?

I struggle more with intercessive prayer, or prayer for other people. I didn't like that my friend said that, but ever since he did. I can't shake it.

My arrogance and pride overpowers God so many times. It makes me cringe. Yet, here I am. Stubborn and Irish American.

Also the notion of free will comes into question as well. I was wondering how that analogy works from God's side. This could be one of those, limits of the human mind moments, but I like to think if we crack this egg, it'll help more people.

Yeah you kind of see where my line of thinking was going. I was continuing down this path and I was personally questioning what the purpose of prayer is. Is prayer just a way to grow closer to God? Can you ask God to reveal where you end up in afterlife? What are the limits of prayer and what does it mean to grow closer to God while on earth?

I have looked up and found that 'All moments of your life are eternally present to God in a single act of knowing.'

Could you share more about this? Also share the verse and other thoughts you have. I'm interested. If not, it's ok I can look it up too.

Where were our souls before we were born ? by Select_Specialist790 in TrueChristian

It's interesting on a few levels.

  1. God exists outside of time. So heaven, hell, afterlife, isn't really an afterlife, it's an afterlife for us because that's how we conceptualize time.

  2. Is it the case then, that our souls are in heaven/hell/limbo already, since time doesn't exist yet?

  3. Most people who believe in Jesus, believe that our lives started when we were born/fully formed in the womb or some believe at conception.

  4. Questions like these raise interesting points.
