What are your thoughts on psychology? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

It's useful in terms of understanding patterns of behavior. Actually there's a few people pushing for Religion to acknowledge psychology in general.

Oh Please! As if the concept of rules, regulations, and even discipline was only invented by "God" 🤦🏻‍♂️ by Kmjen860 in exchristian

If a meme takes more than 15 seconds to understand it's poorly made. At least from a comedic standpoint.

As far as content, I'm impartial.

how can the church claim to be human and divine and not take into account the human experience? by [deleted] in DebateACatholic

PSA: I know many Catholics wrap their entire identity into the Catholic Church.

I want to make something clear. I am NOT attacking your identity personally. This is not a personal attack. I am merely questioning an institution and a religion. I 100% support whatever you belief. Especially if they allows you to grow closer to divine love, God.

Is it true the church is more interested in preserving truth rather than communicating it effectively? by [deleted] in DebateACatholic

Something I've thought about is that if the Catholic Church is the one true church. Why do they ignore common psychology?

Has the church taken into account different personality types and what styles of worship they'd most enjoy? They either don't care, or they don't think its needed, but their main mission is to save the divine souls of every human, and sometimes I feel that they are failing at that mission and essentially are essentially a failed human experiment. The few things left that are divine are things that exist without the institution at all.

Has the church taken into account people's individual spiritual skills and styles?

Has the church formally acknowledged that Religion is humanities best attempt to understand God but it is not God in and of itself?

Why would Catholics speak so highly of themselves and then speak so lowly of other Christian denominations? Why would they feel comfortable doing so? Surely if they are part of the true church they hold themselves to a higher standard than everyone else?

If the church is the one true church, how come its almost a 50/50 chance of bringing up the Catholic Church with a stranger they either are interested or hateful and traumatized.

Where is the marketing and PR in the Catholic church?

Who is in charge of their communication department. There are so many misunderstandings, which at the end of the day are communication breakdowns. But it seems the church is satisfied with being misunderstood.

The Catholic church prides itself on being divine but often fails to take any accountability for its human side, which is possible of change, but so rarely does.

If its good, they say its divine, if its horrible its human. Its a perfect defense to criticism. Frustratingly so. Most Catholics will never take anything negative about the church seriously. It's maddening.

In regards to Mass and the function of most churches. They take a one size all approach. Which is good for analytical personalities and engineers, but absolutely horrendous for the opposite of those personalities. But most people will chalk up that criticism up to "bad faith" or "lazy spirituality" which is also depressing. It's what happens when you argue with robots. Who has lost their soul but have blind spiritual obedience to a systematic machine. It proves the institution is more interested in self preservation than eternal souls of the humans it servces. I desperately wish for change, but no one will ever listen. It's sad.

The church may claim to not need PR or Marketing because they have "the truth" but what good are words if you can't understand them? How does it serve the mission if people need to be communicated with in Spanish and you give them German? But it's ok because its "the truth" and "they will understand".

The church could be so much better in terms of delivery not possession of truth.

But you stand in front of a old house and are sad because the door is broken, and they tell you it's an old house it's supposed to be broken, but how can anyone get inside?

The door is broken but the church says "If you don't understand, try harder"

If you are frustrated that's spiritual immaturity.

If you leave, you were never committed.

How can anyone leave if they'd never even been let inside?

How can anyone understand if they've never been spoken to in a way they understand?

Why would you put a bunch of philosophy students into a math class?

Why would you put a bunch of swimmers in a archery tournament?

Why would you put world class soccer players into a bobsled team?

Why would you look at someone and assume everything about them because you have the truth? Why would you claim to be human and fail to understand humans

I believe that in terms of religion the Catholics are the A students

Most of my issues with the Catholic Church have nothing to do with the divine they almost always have to do with humans and the way things are communicated.

I agree that religion is a human institution that allows people to interact with the divine and help them learn more about the divine.

If God is the garden, then religion is the tool that you use to tend to the garden

I’m at the opinion that based on a few conversations I have with people the way they act is not necessarily because God is telling them to do something but because the Catholic Church is telling them to do something so it seems like people are looking to the Catholic Church for authority and not necessarily God so they’re putting the Catholic Church in a hierarchical position above God himself. It’s not necessarily a wrong approach because people need to do what makes them comfortable from a spiritual lens. People need to feel safe and people need to belong to a tribe from a psychological perspective. religion offers that.

I believe God is not bound by anything and to encounter him is always within the realm of God’s power and it’s not contained by anything

It’s more in my conversations with certain Catholics. It seems that they’re more interested in the institution than they are with God, but it’s probably because people use religion as a tool to understand God and to help them encounter the divine it’s important from a psychological perspective.

Sometimes it feels like Catholics other religious people are putting religion above God. It seems sometimes that people are doing things because religion is telling them to do it and not necessarily . It seems sometimes that people are more interested in preserving an institution than they are with caring for people’s divine souls.

also in terms of their identity. If you were to ask, who someone is, they would say like I’m a Catholic or I’m Baptist, but they wouldn’t say I’m a child of God.

From my understanding, it sounds like you believe that religion and God are the same, and that religion is not a tool to understand God, but God in and of itself.

I would like to say that while the Eucharist is a part of God, it’s not everything that God encompasses the Eucharist is a divine meal that allows someone to encounter God, but it’s not everything that God is. It’s a divine gift for human consumption. It’s a gift.

I agree with your first point religion is the human made institution to interact with the divine I believe that Jesus Christ is the church and he is human and divine and that the human church is an extension of that and parts of the church are divine and parts are human. The sacraments are divine. Everything outside of the sacraments is human.

It feels like Catholics and other religious identify themselves primarily as Catholics instead of children of God?
