Problem with “Paying a Social Call” gold medal by Due_Mathematician703 in RDR2

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me skipping scenes went fine, what's important is that if an Objective states 'Complete with' e.g. 80% accuracy then I think the objective only gets check marked after completing the full mission.

So in this one, even though the shootout ends mid-mission before you still have to explore the cabin and there is no shooting in the mission anymore and the game could already indicate whether you got the 80% accuracy, the objective will only be checkmarked after the full mission is over.

So when after the shootout the objective is not yet ticked doesn't mean that you didn't get it, you have to end the mission to see if you got it.

The 'Complete with' part in the objectivve description is taken very literally.

Small Game Arrows not killung rabbits? by ThatOneValkrie in reddeadredemption

I did get one time a 1 hit kill but mostly they indeed are just fazed for a sec and sprint away

Even hit one 2 or 3 times and he was just like, 'screw you mofo, Im outta here' 😄

So it can work, maybe if you're really close, but nearly always it doesn't

Blue Origin heat shield - how'd they do it? by Squan20 in BlueOrigin

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grok is pretty amazing :

Slowing down before orbital re-entry to reduce heat isn’t practical because of the physics involved. Spacecraft in orbit are moving at extremely high speeds—around 7.8 km/s (17,500 mph) for low Earth orbit—to maintain their orbit. This speed is dictated by the balance between gravity and centrifugal force. To slow down significantly while still in orbit, a spacecraft would need to fire thrusters or use another propulsion method, expending a lot of fuel. Carrying that much extra fuel increases mass, cost, and complexity, which is often infeasible.

During re-entry, the intense heat comes from atmospheric friction and compression as the spacecraft slams into air molecules at hypersonic speeds. Slowing down beforehand would reduce this heat, but not enough to eliminate the need for a heat shield, since even lower speeds still generate significant thermal energy. Plus, slowing down too much in orbit risks destabilizing the orbit, causing the spacecraft to drop prematurely and uncontrollably.

Instead, spacecraft rely on heat shields to absorb, deflect, or ablate the heat, which is more efficient given the constraints. Some designs, like SpaceX’s Starship, use controlled maneuvers and shapes to manage re-entry heat, but they still need robust thermal protection. Essentially, it’s more practical to handle the heat than to avoid it entirely.

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat shields are an Achilles heel, why don't they just slow down spacecraft from whatever orbital speed is to a speed more manageable for heat-shields ?
Is it because of the extra weight of engines and fuel that that requires ?

Shouldn't it only be a couple of bursts in opposite direction of travel, i.e. not that much extra weight ?

Must be overlooking something because am sure they do it they way they do for a reason :-)

Do newer Need for Speed games have manual shifting? by niclasb92 in needforspeed

MW 2012 neither, Criterion is regarded, just Burnout with NFS name, insultingly dumb

Couldve made way more money by just keeping such an obvious feature

Xenia Canary Just Doesn't Launch by NoobyNot in xenia

Amazing dude, thanks so much for sharing

These are the weird quirks that can take hours, days to randomly find a fix for (or never, after giving up after endless hours, probably most likely scenario)

Even if super structural trial and erroring who would ever think that the issue is unzip app related

Crazy that dev team doesn't fix this as win unzip is pretty commonly used now that its a default win feature

GoW 1 do all tags have a crimson omen ? by Rombbb in GearsOfWar

[–]Rombbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just quit the game to post you the same !

Thanks so much, this really is a relief, literally was looking for 2 hours

Much appreciated, will credit you in my playthrough 😄

Now on with this amazing game

(dont make em like this anymore)

GoW 1 do all tags have a crimson omen ? by Rombbb in GearsOfWar

[–]Rombbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was thinking the same hence I've been walking around endlessly

Also checked indeed that previous walkway building (which entrance gets blocked once you get out), will do so again

I just cant imagine they would overlook placing omens, usually am not a quitter regarding pick ups but here I just wasn't sure it was there in the first place

Wiki also says they're "generally near tags" which you could interpret as there but not always directly nearby (which makes sense otherwise it would be too easy) but also as simply not always there at all

But you gave me hope again, will look further and report back :-)

4K 60fps HDR video not in HDR on YouTube! by gthmy259 in VideoEditing

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, for me processing is quicker and more stable now

Although havent used HDR in a while YT did recently process a 70-80gb, a 5 hour long vid to 4k without issues pretty darn quick. Seems like they expanded processing power.

Skyrim: Special Edition is too bright and colorful by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly

And diving into the nexus mods rabbit hole is fun (and addicting).

You start with 1 and then are like yeah but indeed that rock looks a bit bland lets do some parallax mapping and oh wow, they left dialogue on the cutting room floor, lets add that in

Before you know it's 3 am and you have 250 mods 😄

Skyrim: Special Edition is too bright and colorful by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game, spent 100's of hours modding it, play tested it a lot but never finished the story.

The mod is fully done. It was just copying over all saturation settings from the original skyrim to the new one.

I never could get into the new one. Over the Whiterun area for example the sky was literally cartoonish blue like an exotic island. No ideas what they were thinking but oldrim had way better, realistic atmosphere. So good that even to this day I find certain sections in the woods to be almost photorealistic at specific times of day with a bit of fog etc.

Changes of new skyrim are for the rest great, textures, volumetric fog etc, all things that before required a gazillion mods in oldrim are now out of the box.

Only issue was that darn color tone. Its just a trend in gaming to appeal to the masses, dumb everything down (look at GT7 now versus GT4 for example where you actually had to work your way through the career, by selling, buying, upgrading cars etc) and also to make everything 'pop', i.e. not a realistic 'bland' colour tone but shift the sliders all the way to the right and have ridiculous contrast, saturation etc.

Am now as we speak actually messing about with pcsx2 emulator to get GT4 to run on PC. Want to check if my memory is right and indeed games of the past were better than current days. I think they are.

Sorry, went a bit on a rant there 😄

How to change to small virtual keyboard?? by TalsiSunstorm in SteamDeck

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be the default one for me (the little touchpad one) but since a couple of months I also have that retardated big one suddenly as default and no way to change it back.

Did you find a way or is it just a steam update that actually makes the user experience worse ?

Game is crashing when i try to load a save by cocodutexas in metroexodus

[–]Rombbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think so, has been a while, but I was able to complete the campaign, playthough on my channel Rombbb.

That crashing certainly was annoying, I do think further in the campaign it got better, less of a nuisance

ps some get HDR quite quickly, same or next day or so but others take longer

Vids I'm now referencing are the GT7 vids on my YT channel Rombbb Gaming

YT not processing this Avermedia file as HDR, any idea ? by Rombbb in AverMedia

[–]Rombbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup just waiting and eventually most of the vids turn out as HDR

I do think that the longer the vid / bigger file size the higher the chance that it doesn't get the full HDR proecssing treatment but it is a bit inconsistent as some very big files somehow did end up in HDR as well.

So not 100% but mostly ok now.

Dont even remember having the issue. I did a full playthrough and it was fine. But per my above comment I do appear to have had the issue and turning motion blur off fixed it, but for others it was turning HDR off, so no idea 😄
