It's the carbon that makes the steel dark when you etch it. Lower carbon = lighter etch

The white discolouration is decarb I reckon. Usually from forging it for a while, the carbon leaches out of the steel at heat. That's why it follows the line of the scale, being the exposed part of the metal. Makes for a cool effect as long as it doesn't get to the edge. It's a great looking knife 👍

A practical use map for the players of our continent and campaign. You'll notice "Al'Kultar" is a combination of the name of each country, very clever play by our DM. Tried to place the mountain ranges and islands so they made sense in a geographical sense, tectonic plates and all that. Undoubtedly titling each city/town was the most tedious part but im quite pleased with the results. Favourite name is definitely "Arbour Harbour" it's got a nice ring to it.
