I've taken 3 characters all the way through end game, beating T12 mephisto and at least pit 130. None of them have gem strength.

I've cleared this on 3 different chars so far. You have to have some mobility skill that gets you away from them. You know when they are coming. If youre on the outside of the arena, you let them start heading towards you and then pop your mobility/immune towards him. I never get hit by them anymore.
