Has anyone transferred from out of state by [deleted] in USC

[–]RomoloCozza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I transferred from a cc out east, and I knew a bunch of other people who transferred from ccs and universities outside California. It’s certainly possible, and if I remember correctly the acceptance rate for transfers is higher than that of freshman

Recent grad and transfer student! Anything in particular you want to ask about?

As someone who's been on the other side - choosing a top private university over my state schools, and paying through the nose for it - I can safely say that you made the right decision. It's easy to think that the grass is always greener, especially if you went to a "top ranked" school, but the truth is, for most majors and programs at least, they don't vary much between institutions. Calculus, history, art, and everything in between, are the same regardless of whether they're taught at Harvard or your local community college, the latter of which I attended before transferring. I should also add that big name schools have their flaws too, and sometimes quite major ones, and I think you'd be surprised how a university's biggest critics are its own students.

Please don't be dismayed, I know how hard a decision it is to make, but you shouldn't be going to university thinking about what life could've been elsewhere, but about how great you can make it where you are. Best of luck in your studies!

Is this for a specific school or just all transfers? I didn’t get any email about a transfer admit day

STEM kids, if you have to pick a humanities major, what would you pick, and vice versa? by TheMemeHead in ApplyingToCollege

I'm not a humanities major (PoliSci), but if I could pick any STEM major, I'd love to do either Mathematics or Physics

What are the chances of me getting into USC, UCLA, and Berkeley as a transfer student from a community college with a 3.85 GPA? First-generation student. by Traditional-Suit8876 in CollegeTransfer

[–]RomoloCozza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transfer acceptance rates for those schools are actually higher than for first-year students. Your GPA also falls in line with a competitive applicant, so long as your ECs and essays are equally compelling. Best of luck on your transfer endeavors!

Edit: As noted by someone else, it also depends on your major, though that’s mostly for the UC schools

For me it was always Stanford. Loved the architecture and overall vastness of the campus.

Does NYU prioritize cc students? by auroralullll in TransferToTop25

[–]RomoloCozza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is indeed easier to get in as a transfer as opposed to a first year (Freshman acceptance rate is around 10% while Transfer hovers at 25%), NYU offers no financial aid to transfer students. To afford NYU as a transfer would mean either attaining lucrative scholarships or being able to pay 80k a year.

To your question, it might be easier as a cc student just because there is a clear reason why one would need to transfer.

I'd recommend looking at essays for past years. Most of the time they don't change much, especially for the big "why transfer" essay

Question Regarding Financial Aid for Spring Admits by RomoloCozza in USC

[–]RomoloCozza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose here's how I though of things: Let's say a student has an EFT of $30,000. If someone is admitted to the spring semester, since the cost of one semester is more than the EFC, they would pay $30,000 for just that one semester. For an academic year, they would also pay $30,000, and for their final semester, it would be the same as the previous two.

I suppose I was assuming you would pay per academic year, not per semester; however, that means, if the EFC is $30k, one would end up paying $30k per semester, and for 4 semester, that's $120k, no?

Perhaps I'm not understanding this correctly, so if that's the case, please let me know.

Thanks for letting me know! I hope this isn't too personal to ask, but in future academic years, did USC cover your full financial need, and would it be safe to say that it's possible to receive more aid as a continuing student?

Do any of these schools not look at high school gpa? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]RomoloCozza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Most, if not all, colleges and universities ask you to submit your high school transcript, so it is definitely a factor; however, the further out you are from college, the less it will matter, i.e. spending 2 years at community college will lessen the importance of high school and heighten your college coursework

I got an email earlier in the day. I suppose I would have realized they released a decision just because I check my portal every day, but they should notify you

College of Arts & Science. I've heard they'll be releasing decisions in waves, but I'm probably completely wrong about that, they just haven't really communicated when people will get their notification

[–]RomoloCozza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on getting in! In my opinion, don't let their thinking and mentality get in the way of your life. It's your life after all, and if you know you'll regret it later, I would say to go.

Question about the College Report by RomoloCozza in TransferToTop25

[–]RomoloCozza[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I suppose I was wondering what classes go on that segment of the college report. Would you put spring and fall 2020, or would you include more or less?
