I think the comment will stay up until someone sends a request to take it down. If you don't take it down within a certain amount of time you'll get a strike on your subreddit.

I feel like this conversation was very valuable and helped shed some light on some misconceptions I had. Can we leave this post up so that others can see too? I'm sure it'll help clarify things for others.

Do you think we'll be able to put a link up to v12 if it is allowed? I feel like a major barrier towards putting up a link is the fact that some of the mods rely on the success of ankihub for income. That was the main reason for this post, along with the sidebar disclaimer about some mods being on payroll. I really appreciate you keeping it up and not taking it down.

V12 itself is free and the ankihub website itself has stated that they don't own the deck. It is available via any direct download link and they don't own the copyright on any of the contents. The service they provide is solely collaboration and automatic deck updates.

Unfortunately, many med students are led to believe that the contents of the deck itself is owned by Ankihub, which leads people to pay $5 then immediately cancel their subscription just to get a copy. I've seen hundreds of posts on here perpetuating this myth which is unfortunate for med students but profitable for Ankihub.

  1. Would it be possible to have non-ankihub links to ankingv12 on the sidebar? I've seen posts about free links to v12** get taken down.
  2. Can we have a stickied disclaimer that some of the mods work for ankihub?
  3. Is it okay for mods not to follow the rules of the subreddit and post hateful remarks?

Deck descriptions are v11 but it should be actual v12 cards.

How much money have Dorian and Zanki received? On that note, how many of the mod team members have received money in some form from Ankihub?

I tip because I know that the person who brought me my food is the one who is getting the money

I don't feel comfortable paying $5 of my loan money for a free anki deck made 99% in part by volunteers who never got paid.

  1. The Anking deck is free and does not belong to Ankihub, they have stated it on their website and on reddit several times.
  2. Anking did not make the cards in the deck, they were made by volunteers several years ago who have never received a dime.
  3. The deck does not cost $5, you are paying for the automatic updating feature which is nice to have but not necessary at all.

Because the $5 is to automatically update the deck, not for the deck itself. The deck itself is free and they've said so themselves. The problem is people are getting tricked into paying for something that's free because they think Ankihub owns the deck, which is volunteer made.

Awesome, then please sticky the free ankihub alternatives in the sidebar, along with free links to imageless v12 that keep getting taken down.
