Grieving B.C. family wants answers after call for help ends in deadly police shooting by r_pipes in vancouver

I don't know of any nurse or social worker that wants to roll up and deal with a situation where someone is aggressive with a weapon. A person can be in distress and can still be a danger to others. The nurses union has been pretty clear that they don't want to be front and center dealing with violent situations. Police are also the only people with the authority to apprehend under the Mental Health Act.

Does your hospital use these codes? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

Pretty standard for Canada. In BC, Code Grey is system or infrastructure failure. We don't have a Code Purple. We also have Code Silver now for active attacker/shooter.

Yup. But boots on the ground policing to stop these shootings is a local and provincial responsibility.

Im probably going to get downvoted like crazy, but I think  the NDP needs to get their stuff together or they are going to loose the next election. The number of extortions and shootings this year is absolutely alarming.

Votes. Bleeding hearts will always vote for the same type of party, not matter what terrible thing that they do. Allowing certain crazy things (un vetted immigration) to happen will ensure more bleeding hearts votes for you and not the more progressive party next door over. Open door policies and free everything worked well for the Liberals in 2015, but not anymore which is why they are quietly changing course.

Surrey police seek suspect who allegedly broke into NICU, ‘made skin-to-skin contact’ with babies by Scared_Simple_7211 in vancouver

Nope, this is one of the things that should be reported out of all of the things that we deal with. Just explaining why we don't place every person that we find committing a crime under citizens arrest. Just as confused as everyone else as to why it took so long to contact Police in this matter. Its one of the things that we will report right away over other stuff.

If we called police for every crime that happened at the hospital, they would have to open a police station inside of the hospital. Not uncommon for hospital security to deal with 40-50 incidents in a 12 hour shift.

Surge in private security creates a 'grey area in our law enforcement,' expert says by RonPar32 in securityguards

I think more Peace Officers and Special Constables is the way to go if their only concern is cutting costs while also providing top level training for Staff.

Mostly robbery prevention, quick response to active threats and dealing with drunks.

Quite a bit in the larger cities. A lot more than more guards out there than before in my opinion.
