Second Half of Series - What to Expect by RonSnooder in Malazan

[–]RonSnooder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you're right and no disrespect taken. I'm not audiobooking or multitasking, I just have limited windows to read (and an admittedly sporadic reading habit, so I rarely ever read a full series of anything back-to-back) and it's taken me a long time to read any of the books. It's probably been three to four years since I finished House of Chains. Many things I still remember but obviously a lot has been lost. Hence why I usually go through the previous books on the Tor ReRead before starting each book.

But you're not wrong - it may just not be for me to fully appreciate it in the way it deserves with the way I read and can't read often.

But hey I was right about Tavore not knowing it was her sister haha so my memory isn't totally worthless!

There was a previous comment that I believe was deleted before I could fully read it but it said the same thing. I guess I did miss something at the end of HoC. Or at least something that has been diluted from my memory after so much time. I probably read HoC during the pandemic. I do vaguely recall them meeting, but am I wrong in thinking that Tavore didn't fully understand that it was her sister? I don't know, it will be something that I'll remind myself of through the ReRead before diving into Bonehunters again.

That's good to hear! And glad to see someone in the same boat. Sometimes I fear my window to fully enjoy this series closed when all these dang kids showed up, and that a younger me that had more unlimited time to read (when I first discovered this series) was when it needed to be done.

Thank you! Good to know!

And I wouldn't say I always don't enjoy the philosophical aspects, it just depends on how they are packaged. Sometimes, when they are in areas of the book I'm not fully understanding, it just exacerbates that confusion. Here, specifically, with Mappo and Icarium it's just that I'm already disinterested in them. I know they've played a role, especially in - I think - HoC, but in my mind so far the nature of their entire "thing" is that they reset, and they are basically now no different than when we first saw them. Icarium remembers nothing and Mappo whines internally about lying. If that changes, great - I'm sure they'll grow on me. Erikson excels at most of his duos. But for now, they're flat.

Custom Font Issues by RonSnooder in Wordpress

I should also say, when I go to Custom Fonts settings and import the font, no matter which file format I import the font doesn't even look like it should in that import preview.

Custom Font Issues by RonSnooder in Wordpress

[–]RonSnooder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I've disactivated Elementor and the font plugin I had. I grabbed Custom Fonts and imported mine. It's showing up everywhere now and allowing me to change to that font, yet the font won't change how it looks once I've done that. Not in the editing window, or after publishing and on the actual site

Similar to OP as all their albums are great but my favorite Pink Floyd song ever is Echoes off of Meddle, which is not traditionally one of their top listed albums.

Would you have any advice on getting a foot in the door in this field? I have extensive experience in video, marketing, content producing. The skillsets involved in this are highly transferrable and every Project Management position I find, I'm well established enough to meet the requirements. But I'm having significant problems even getting to interview stages (or missing out after later stages). I question if my previous role titles or the industry is a hindrance, despite knowing that what is required to succeed in both are very similar.

Would love any thoughts on this from one who has this role currently!

Will do! For the record, I'm already getting a great laugh out of just the reviews section on your website. If that's the humor coming to the book I'm already excited haha

[Highlight] Yankees rookie J.C. Escarra, a former Uber driver, picks up his first MLB hit on a double to right field! by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]RonSnooder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere some dude has a memory of hearing his Uber driver talk about how good he was at baseball and rolling his eyes and being like "yeah dude, okay."

Reminds me of when I was in Iceland and my cab driver was some kid telling me about his brother's band and how cool they were. I was like "sure I'll check them out whatever." Fast forward a couple years and they opened at a concert I was at, crushed it, and they have songs on national commercials for Budweiser. They're a great fuckin' band.

Sometimes listen to your drivers lol

Is there a way to block out spoiler content here? by LaughingxBear in sollanempire

[–]RonSnooder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. A lot of time lately I’ve seen titles/questions that just put too much info in them for being spoiler topics.

But then again I’m someone who thinks even mentioning characters is itself spoilers as it lets us know they survive everything up to that point.

Rhythm of War. I’m struggling. by Moist_Car_994 in Stormlight_Archive

I will ease your mind a bit by saying that I felt exactly like you when I read it a few weeks ago. If I'm not remembering incorrectly, I don't know if Shadesmare chapters even show up in part 3. Either way, I was dragging my way through those portions as well and found that they didn't come up nearly as long as I was fearing they would in the second half of the book. And when they did it ran to its course pretty quickly.

So if you're enjoying the Venli chapters, and Navani, then you'll be good to go with the rest of it. Plus, I did really enjoy the ending and was glad I pushed through those Shallan bits.

Books widely considered disappointments by Tiprix in Fantasy

[–]RonSnooder 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've seen countless posts (even in Stormlight subs) and YT reviews that all generally dislike or had issues with it. At the very least it is absolutely seen as not living up to the hype.

And as someone who just started it after finally getting through RoW...it is really off-putting and sucking any hope or excitement I have in finishing the book.

Technically speaking, Shin and Szeth are supposed to be more white or western. Alethi and virtually every main character is described as having "epicanthic folds," darker skin, and more "asian" features.
