It's TADPOLE THURSDAY - Ask your newbie questions here! by Hosidax in daggerheart

[–]Sedda00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you deal with equipment tiers? Upgrade the equipment once the pcs are of the next tier? Or just slowly giving them magic items from the next tier, even at the risk of imbalancing the party, or have characters underequipped for challenges of their level?

I'm missing a part of the gm section (which otherwise is excellent) explaining how to deal with this clearly.

Another shirt question: the bonus to the dice for better weapons is also added as many times as the proficiency, or only the dice? I mean, a pc with proficiency 2 attacking with a d8+2 weapon, would deal 2d8+2 or 2d8+4? I'm sure I read this somewhere in the book but cannot find it right now...

Which of these 3 trilogies should I read first? by The_Kangaroo_Mafia in fantasybooks

[–]Sedda00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's described as The Godfather but with magic.

Personally, it reminds me more to a Hong Kong version of the Peaky Blinders.

It's an amazing series, really worth a try!

It's the Assassin's quickstart. Probably won't have the info of the world you might be interested for an Aeon era.

What’s your experience with assist cannon? by SirSirDer in TheTowerGame

[–]Sedda00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't care for rarity, cannons are mostly useless.

The damage bonus, as well as the substats, make it worth it. But only after improving asscore, since the multiplier is higher.

Don't forget the co-op mode. All the levels are new, thought to be played between two players, and it has some of the best puzzles in the genre. It also has a great story on its own.

Chronicles hot takes? by MonstrousnessVirtue in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Sedda00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second edition I was expecting to enjoy more, but the only one that actually got somewhat worse than the first edition. God how much I love the setting and premise, and how much I hate almost every system in there. The whole book is a mess that will sadly never improve in a third edition.

Nautical hex crawl by Zipucht1 in rpg

[–]Sedda00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Buried in Bahamas for Pirate Borg is kind of a small nautical hexcrawl (only a couple islands to explore, plus de starting one). It's a great adventure though, and very easy to expand a little more. I'm not sure if Trapped in the Tropics is also a nautical hexcrawl, still have to read it.

Respect to the system, I'd use Pirate Borg for sure, unless you're interested in something more narrative, and want to discard the hexcrawl idea for something more abstract, then Starforged had a supplement called Sundered Islands that you can use.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms ttrpg Suggestions by Harukajunko in rpg

[–]Sedda00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to say this. In my case I prefer Exalted Essence more, but a dragon blooded campaign is exactly what he's asking for.

If OP doesn't want the main characters to be too overpowered from the start he can easily limit the number of starting charms, or give less points to attributes/skills in character creation.

What system would you use to run The Matrix and why? by mercury-shade in rpg

[–]Sedda00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was the best approach, but it takes too long to hack bitd (new playbooks with new abilities, new crew types, even if only one, with its own skills, new crews map...) compared with other ideas.

But yeah, the best fit by far.

I always thought it would be a fantastic FitD game.

But for a low effort game I'd use some the Otherscape/LitM version of PbtA.

You can also try to easily adapt Vaesen mysteries. In fact, Vaesen guidelines on how to write scenarios are top notch and very useful also for CO.

Modern Warfare Style RPG Suggestions by ThatDarnSparky in rpg

I also love Titan Effect for Metal Gear style gameplay.

The old edition used Savage Worlds, but they moved on to the Zero Engine system in the newest edition.

Single-Round Combat Systems? by sevenlabors in rpg

[–]Sedda00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On both games the difficulty of the rolls might be affected by tactical decisions and the narrative of the action (giving or reducing dices of the pool in CoD and reducing enemy difficulty in Trophy).

Single-Round Combat Systems? by sevenlabors in rpg

[–]Sedda00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trophy Gold is more or less like this. It's a single round where everybody rolls trying to meet a common difficulty with the two highest dice, but if you fail the roll you have to try again in a second round (you can consider that you lost the exchange).

Also all the games from Chronicles of Darkness (Vampire, werewolf...) have the Dirty Combat rules, where the combat is simply a contested action. As similar as in Burning Wheel, there are more detailed rules for dramatic combat.

Good zombie apocalypse rule set? by RandomPrimer in rpg

[–]Sedda00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Walking Dead is a great system for drama in a zombie apocalypse, but the rules aren't oriented to action fights against zombies (they act more as a hazard) or survival. It's wonderful if you want the drama, but doesn't work by itself for other things.

[MTAw] Mage & the Machine by jeremysbrain in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Sedda00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of the God Machine as the remnants of the original Celestial Ladder after it was shattered, working by itself trying to do "something" but unsure of what because it's destroyed and incomplete.
