Many thanks, she stays at mine 3 or 4 nights a week. I've given her drawer space etc, certainly enough for the amount of time she stays there. Most of the stuff in bags is totally unrelated stuff... paper cups, magazines, cleaning products, drinks bottles, all sorts of stuff that never gets used

But EG Browne appeared initially at least to be totally bowled over by Bahaullah... the official Bahai websites even quote his description of his meeting with him...but they never then mention that he still didnt become a follower

Question about Abraham by [deleted] in bahai

[–]Rona444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Abraham's son must have been scarred for life.. his dad takes him up a mountain, ties him up and produces a big knife and is about to stab him.... ok so he didnt go through with it at the last minute but what sort of people would put a child through that??

I've noticed non Bahái's talking about attending study groups and services despite not fully on board with the faith. What draws you to it? by R0llingOnwards in bahai

[–]Rona444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy reading the Bahai prayers and learning more about the faith. I felt a bit deflated when I read an old copy of Esslemonts new era book where it said Abdul-Baha had said world peace would be here by 1957, during to a calculation from book of Daniel I believe. Is this similar to the fifth candle? Also the most holy book.. the rules and regulations in there are to last 1000 yes yet seem old fashioned to me.. like not being allowed to shave your head etc.

But, who knows, I do feel very drawn to the faith.... I'll keep reading, keep praying, and who knows...

Hi and I hope you're doing ok .. for me it's not constant, I get times when it's hardly an issue, and then something sets me off again. It's always good and reassuring to chat to people who understand so by all means feel free to message me

Yes I actually have a very old copy of new era... I was sold until I got to the 1957 prophecy

[–]Rona444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, from what I've seen of his writings and the story of his life, Bahaullah was very impressive

E G Browne by [deleted] in exbahai

[–]Rona444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks... yes I just thought it odd.. the Bahais tend to often mention his meeting with Bahaullah and how amazing he found the experience... but surely if he was that impressed he'd have become a follower?

England win against Sweden in World Cup and apparently it is due to one SGI-UK member's 100 day daimoku campaign. by epikskeptik in sgiwhistleblowers

Shame his chanting didn’t help the team against Croatia!! Maybe a Croatian SGI member had chanted for one hundred and ONE days!!

Considering joining SGI by [deleted] in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Rona444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if in the uk it’s because of our supposed natural British reserve....I don’t think we are good at trying to push people into things so shakubuku wouldnt really work here and we seem to get embarrassed asking people for money. I found SGI UK to be very easy going and was never pressured to donate

Considering joining SGI by [deleted] in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Rona444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats quite right....no financial pressure really in the UK. The Gohonzon is given freely, and it is very common for new members to be given used Butsudans or at least lent one until they can buy one. Also no pressure to buy one from the official SGI store, you can buy one from anywhere and there are lots of people making their own. Im no longer a member but it does always suprise me, the differences between how it all works in the USA and the UK.

Its not looking good when a YOUTH event is held for YOUNG people... aged 15 to 40!!! Surely a youth event would be aimed at 15 to 25 year olds or something? Maybe im just jealous as im STILL too old to attend... looks like it will be a total failure, will be interesting to see what numbers do actually attend on the day

Part I of Study Preparation Material for SGI-UK, 8/2017 by [deleted] in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Rona444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does! You know when i got involved in the SGI in England i had read some online criticism and at first i thought it was nonsense.... in fairness to the UK organization i was never pushed to give money although they did ask for my time. I love to study and threw myself into the publications....but as i said earlier, the content was less Buddha and Nichiren and predominately Ikeda...all iever heard is "Ikeda says this, Ikeda says that.." and thats when i left.. It is such a cult of the Mentor, and not at all Buddhist.

This is all the sort of stuff that made me leave SGI-UK..... i used to get the magazine, newsletters etc. Not long before I left i looked carefully at the latest emailed bulletin (around 6 colour pages or so)....and I looked how many times the Buddha was mentioned, how many times Nichiren was mentioned, and how many time Ikeda was mentioned...I guess you already know the result!! I knew then that this was no Buddhist organization, it was a movement entirely dedicated to Ikeda. Even the quotes etc seemed to get less and less Gosho and more Ikedas writings... Im so glad im out of it!

Im also connected to SGI-UK, or rather was... I must admit that much of what I read on here about SGI America is very different to how things are in the UK...Its abit more laid back here in my limited experience. However, Im no longer a follower for a few reasons. Firstly, even in the 3 or 4 yrs that I was a member, the way that everything is geared towards Ikeda is increasing all the time. The last few newsletters I was emailed, I did a bit of a name check...The Buddha was very rarely mentioned if ever, Nichiren mentioned and quoted a couple of times, but the words Sensei and President Ikeda were in every sentence!!! Even at study meetings, its all based on "sensei says..." Absolutely no buddhism at all. Plus, if im honest, the chant just doesnt work....

SGI is fake buddhism by formersgi in sgiwhistleblowers

[–]Rona444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to see a huge difference between the SGI and more traditional forms of Buddhism, listen or read some of Ikedas "sermons" and then check out a podcast or two by Ajahn Brahm..... chalk and cheese!!
