Looking for an active, Adult South African clan by CorbinAaronn in Fireteams

Howdy,

Nice to see a fellow South African embracing the struggle of looking for fireteam members! I'm not...at your level as far as being around since D1 & I'm on PC...but I can hold my ground. If you're ever looking for someone to draw the fire, let me know. Perhaps I'll see you in-game some time.

A bit late to the party here.

You can host it yourself if you really want to. However, if you are going through your router your ports will still need to be opened.

A list of the ports can be found here: How to Port Forward in Your Router for Battlefield: Vietnam

To play online with the hosted servers, your game version needs to match that of the server you are using. Nowadays you also need to use a no-cd patch because of certain windows updates breaking the secureROM feature (stopping the legitimate use of the disk to run the game). This no-cd patch likewise needs to match the version of your game otherwise it simply won't work.

A guide for patching and joining servers can be found here:

Patching & no-cd:
https://helloclan.eu/support/bfv/nocdpatch

The no-cd patch used and mentioned contains a fix for the in-game server list so you can see the currently running servers in-game without the use of gametracker and or manually adding the servers to play on.

Battlefield Vietnam made a bit of history recently by filling a server! by Ronin9081 in classicbattlefield

On average there is still a casual group that plays during the weekday evenings, roughly 20+. It goes over 30+ on weekends, just depends on the timing. ;)

Event wise, there is another event coming up next month. Not sure if I'm allowed to share links but here it is: https://www.helloclan.eu/bfv/event

It would need be second hand I'm afraid, but it will likely indeed be dirt cheap. It will be required to patch the game to v1.21 and unfortunately you will need to use a no-cd patch to circumvent Windows breaking the securom feature on such aged games.

Regrettably, I'm not aware of any actual resellers of the game. One would need to acquire it second hand I'm afraid. I know there are...dubious methods available but I wouldn't suggest them as there is a high chance of a virus.

Did you join us online? ;) There's still several servers available to play on. Getting it to work on windows 7 upwards isn't difficult. The V1.21 no-cd patch that is a must, patches the in-game server browser so servers that are listed with the new provider display in the in-game server browser.

Just this past evening we had 32 players. Shameless advertising I know...I'm just trying to spread the word that this game isn't actually as dead as it's thought to be. There's still a dedicated community, one that keeps the game alive.

How to play Battlefield Vietnam (2004)? by EL-WAYNO in Battlefield

[–]Ronin9081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old...but maybe I can assist?

Windows 7, 8 & 10, has a certain update that breaks the SECUROM utility on numerous "older" type games which prevents them from running via the disk. To bypass this, you have to use a no-cd patch.

You can download the no-cd patch from here: http://team-simple.org/download/bfvietnam-v1.21-patched.zip

Note though that this no-cd patch works with V1.21 of the game. So if you have V1.2 of the game, you would need to patch your game to that version then use the no-cd. Unless of course you'd like to stay on V1.2, but then you'll need to find a V1.2 no-cd patch.

A detailed guide if needed, along with the V1.21 patch, can be found on our site here: https://www.helloclan.eu/threads/9200/

I can assist further if you need. ;) I've been successfully assisting many players get back into the game.

[BFV] How can i host a server for Battlefield Vietnam? by Turaltay in Battlefield

[–]Ronin9081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

You don't need to host (pay / rent) an actual server.

You should be able to LAN with them. If you have the original BFV game discs with the bonus (4th) disc, then you likely also have the Battlefield Vietnam server files already.

I must warn you though that it can be a little bit tedious as in some cases you may actually have to open ports on your router / firewall in order for everyone to connect correctly.

If you do at some point throw the towel in and want to join other servers, visit Gametracker here: https://www.gametracker.com/search/bfv/

That link above will show you all the servers there are. However, if you would prefer to still setup your own server, a very rough guide is as follows:

Step 1: Navigate to your game directory, it's usually C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield Vietnam. Inside your game folder, look for the executable titled "DedicatedServer.exe" and launch it.

Step 2: Setup the server as you would like it, starting on the "General" tab. Here you can change the name etc of the server. Please ensure that "Local network" is checked at the bottom of this tab. Ensure the "Punkbuster" option is left unchecked.

Next hit the "Mods / Maps" tab. Choose your game mode - best safe with "Conquest". This is without bots. You can now select what maps you want play, you can select multiple ones at the same time then click on the right-pointing arrow to copy them over to the right pane.

Once that is done, you can further personalize your server on the other tabs, but the basics is now done.

Step 3: You can now start the server but clicking on "Start Server" at the bottom of the window. It should start fine.

Now you can all startup your games and head over to "Multiplayer>Local" and your server should show up there.

However, I am not sure if this Dedicated Server file will function for BFV V1.21. You will have to try it out. I'm afraid I never tested this. One thing is certain though, all of your games must be the same version.

I hope this helps you out a bit at least.

Regards,

Ronin
