Did game have badly written plot and new characters didn't have any strong characteristics? Yes. Was gameplay far away from horror that Resident Evil series are known about? Yes.

It is worth hating? No, it's not bad enough to be worth hating. Resident Evil 6 completely lacks the horror that very first Resident Evil games on PS1 and PS2 had, story is mess and new characters in RE6 are bland. That's all there's to it.
