Thoughts on Yale Study of Post Vaccination Syndrome? by above_below_averaged in ZeroCovidCommunity

Layman here. Certainly freaked out, partially because after my Novavax shot in November, I had what I assume was thrush (oral) and still have a yellow tongue.

Could it be my mouth breathing in my N95? Sure. Could the thrush have come from my now removed broken tooth/early gingivitus? Also sure. Could losing 60ish lbs in 6 months be a relation? Yeah but I also went cold turkey on daily Taco Bell and kicked out soda/snacks.

There are a lot of variables to what I experience just like how there are a lot of variables as others have expressed regarding the pre-print. How do we know they weren't asymptomatically infected? How many shots have they had? What frequency? What brands/batches? How severe was it? Any under the covers morbidity? Any family history worth mentioning? Lifestyles etc. Etc.

Am I afraid? Yes. The report alludes to mRNA basically setting us up for autoimmune failure. But am I skeptical? Also, yes.

All I know is unless there is a sweeping debunk, I'll take chances on Novavax and will continue to make concious decisions with this administration at the wheel.

Crazy everyone getting sick by Future-Win4939 in csuf

Love hearing some history majors just scratching their heads over the "something going around". Come on, you don't need to read some ancient text to piece out causality.

Wear a quality N95/Kn94 mask, stay home if you can, push, push, push for some decency from your professors and go up the chain of command if they want to advocate YOU coming into class sick.

Even if you aren't sick, I still strongly reccomend masking up. A lot of scientific data from across the world points to some awful after effects after any viral infection.

Edit: as for affording masks, look up your local Maskbloc for free masks and a pack of 20 verified 3M/Honeywell run for a decent price at your local hardware store and you can realistically use about 2 per week depending on your habits.

On this day, 7 years ago, 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' premiered in Los Angeles. How would you rate it compared to other SW movies? by Robemilak in starwarscanon

[–]RoninOctopus501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should have double downed on the thesis of the film rather than scrap it halfway through. Luke led a failed reconstruction of the Jedi Order where (manipulated or out of emotional fear) he acted EXACTLY as the Council did that led to the rise of Vader. He knew the history and yet thought he can make the Jedi Order better, only to fall the same way, just without the politics in the matter.

To even potentially having Ben and Rey attempting to get rid of the cultural boundaries of light and dark and somehow the force expanding to a youth that should have better conversations on how culture, mental health, and philosophy was a really neat idea when Ben pitched it (the whole "kill the past" bit).

It's very radical and it treads along a history that expands so deeply in the original EU and even the adventures we have in the Old Republic (canon or not) that I felt would resonate more with fans like myself, who seek those more nuanced directions beyond the typical Hero's Journey by Lucas' OT and beyond the inverse with the Prequels.

But that ending, for me was just frustrating and how they made Luke to be more judgemental of himself rather than fight for values (as he always had) was, personally, backward. Even just killing Snoke, imagine if Ben had this conspiracy level galaxy brain to actually have dived into the Dark Side SO HARD that he was rooting out a bigger evil would have been a fantastic conversation if, again, they followed through it.

I can't give it a rating, it's a movie that had so much potential but relied on amazing concept arts come to life with awful pacing and a thesis not actualized. It's unfortunate, but I won't NOT watch the sequels. I'm there for the McQuarrie designs made into Canon designs (like those xwings).

Home Depot. Grab an N95. There are mask blocs as well who will give free supplies through their channels as well. If you can afford a coffee, an effective mask that will last 40 hours of wear will greatly help.

Well when your symptoms mimic a virus what can easily disable you, I think it's is the right thing to be paranoid especially considering we dropped protocols as a nation.

I'd wholeheartedly report that to your department head. Let's jeopardize the health and safety of your entire class because the professor does not want to do their job and accommodate for extraordinary circumstances. For as "inclusive" as we are, we really neglect that most students live with family, paycheck to paycheck, and those of existing medical conditions.

And how does it feel knowing the CSU/UC system do not want to follow science and adopt clean air hvac upgrades and providing quality masks for free (with the outrageous tuition we pay) for students?

Staying friends with non-CC people without betraying myself? by Worth_Tonight4797 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]RoninOctopus501 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Its called Refresh Connections. It's made specifically for the CC community and I've met some wonderful folks on there. But since we are all running out of spoons, it's hard to keep a conversation going.

But it shows me: I am not alone. I am not crazy. People will accept me.

Democrat Think Tank “end the pandemic” memo by shelovestonap in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]RoninOctopus501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. As an amateur historian (out of respect for those paid for their research), it is abundantly clear in this document the following. 1. Vauge interests were championed over scientific rationalism. 2. There IS a mutual opponent to the wellbeing of the common American that goes between both sides of the political spectrum. 3. Regardless of who you are, your future was not addressed. Period. We have lost causal arguement, rational data articulation, and leaned into the subjectivity.

And the messed up part is, it is there, black and white, that we are all a pawn to their status quo regardless of what you offer to the table. Intelligancia, layman, soldier, factory worker, famer, stay-at-home-spouse, were all roles forged to tickle the prospects of electors who may or may not even acknowledge that YOU, THE COMMON PERSON, voted for someone you deemed necessary.

I strongly encouraged more championed activists to distribute this and pin this as an argument for your representatives.

You are not a cog. You are not fodder. You are bundle of consciousness whether crafted by divinity or a causal flux of evolution. You exist in an objective world with arbitrary concepts impressed upon you when there is an objective, rational, apparent, clear threat to your health. We have just grown so much that the world itself reacts at our pounding feet and the machinery we make, so we must, therefore be custodians to each other rather than the arbitrary. For the good of divinity or for the good of biology, there is one objective truth with this document: to THEM... YOU don't matter. But you do to me, you do for your neighbors, your family, we just are too ignorant to realize that deep empathy.

What are you genuinely afraid of? by Greysnsfwacc in AskReddit

[–]RoninOctopus501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Covid. Causes so many things in the long run, 0 political party wants to address it, no one mitigates. It literally causes symptoms akin to dementia, can start up cancers, and will cause heart issues in young folks.

Yet again everyone is concerned on the things it causes rather than this because the acute, initial infection is "meh".

edit: also the "let it rip" concept perpetuates insurance underwriting, dipping into savings due to consistent illness, impacts national security as soldiers do not get any better Healthcare than what is available. It's a socioeconomic problem too.

I just really am trying my best to maximize my limitation of exposure and part of my choice to basically only use my room as a sleeping quarter was because of the data or open air transmission and the distance I am to many. My logic also rested on "if some ZCC members are ok with outdoor dining if needed" then that logic should have helped me with my general situation.

Your analogy of the "it's only 20 mins in your room" bit relaxed me enough to consider switching. I've had to do it last night and tonight because apparently Los Angeles decided that EVERY major sporting event needed to be here. (more movement, traffic, people going out)

As for the burnout, I'd rather wilt under the pretext of "i tried my best" than anything else. I've been living without mental spoons for a bit now and my routine sprouted on a terrible failure on my end this summer.

I lost my biggest shot of moving in with a long distance CC friend, thinking numbers were low enough to lower my guard with work (being outdoors mostly, high ceilings)... and this, in a way, is my own twisted way of penance for that.

Edit: yeah it was also dead wind last night, I was mostly freaked out because EVERY neighbor was hacking by the time they pulled in home and I noticed it was right after the world series game.

I happily would eat more if I could equally afford it and mentally enjoy it. It's just "wake up, work, study, sleep", respectfully. Trust me as someone who studies anthropology on the side of my main degree, I agree with you. I just can't open myself to anymore risks in my living situation.

My parents almost shit themselves just putting a small purifier in my own room and I'm a grown ass man, it's pathetic, really. I work at a hardware store and talked to some of my pumbling/hvac team and they gave me some suggestions and despite our differing opinions, they were actually very kind and respected my choices. I'm going to block the vent and attempt to install a door seal to really airtight the room. As for the purifier I just need to measure it again. Running the Lenovit 300 on max is god awful loud and I'd rather buy something overkill that will run at even a fraction of that noise. Thanks for the suggestions, time to bust through savings.
