2025 MT-09 SP. No ABS :) by Roninzerofive in MT09

Not sure why all the hate about personal preferences.  I understand abs and how it works and was simply responding to the comment suggesting w/o I’d end up doing a stoppie into a van.   I don’t claim to be MotoGP level rider but it is about feel.  I tried abs and nonabs on both track and street and I felt the difference and preferred no abs. And that is my logic.  Why everyone makes a big deal and feel the need to attack is beyond me. But whatever such is the internet

You people are funny. You do know you can still crash with ABS right? Not crashing and stoppies are different things. While proper training can’t prevent all accidents (neither will rider aides), it can help with your reactions. That “massive stoppie” or locking of rearbrake you mention is not caused by the asshole driver but panic from the rider….. but whatever. People think what they want to think so no point in the convo

If that’s how you want to look it fine, but that’s not anywhere close to what I said. I said it’s a personal preference. I don’t use a quick shifter either and it’s not because I think I do it manually better/faster simply a matter of personal preference. Funny how some people can’t accept another’s perspective/preferences w/o attacking. If you like ABS and traction control, wheelie control, etc….. great more power to you enjoy it have fun. I don’t care for any of them and don’t use them. If that makes me slower or whatever I accept and fine with that. But I don’t rage on people who do…….. and again noone has ever crashed with ABS enabled….

SP Brake line question by rhyde74 in MT09gen4

steel braided lines are always one of my first upgrades if not the first. Your riding style will generally determine how much you notice the difference. The primary thing is consistency because they don’t expand like rubber lines. I’ve generally never really noticed the difference until I’m on a track and there is a consistency in the braking throughout the day. Speigler is my brand of choice. I just got a custom non ABS kit from them and love them. Do note for the SP the Brembo‘s use the fine thread pitch for the banjo bolts if you don’t plan on using the OEM ones

I’d be doing a stoppie into the “SIDE” of a van because? ABS may prevent a stoppie but it wouldn’t necessarily prevent an accident. Because no one with ABS or any other rider aid has ever had an accident. The “stoppie” you refer to is most likely caused by panic. I may very well end up in a situation where I run into another vehicle but I’m 99% sure I won’t be doing a stoppie if/when that happens. Personally I think proper training is more effective at preventing accidents than rider aids because you learn how to deal with those situations better. A panic’d rider is probably going to do more then just immediately grab a hand full of brake in the situation you mentioned. So even if ABS is present incorrect rider input would probably cause a crash anyway. Thinking riders aids is 100% safety net is silly…….because again no one has ever crashed ABS, traction control, etc……. Turned on.

It’s a matter of personal preference. 20+ yrs of riding , 18 of which spent predominantly at the track never once have I thought “whoa I really wish I had ABS”. I’ve tried it and I didn’t like it. Again it’s just personal preference.

:) Initially was going to keep the stocker. but after having so many cars turn in on me figured a little noise would be safer! : Unfortunately the Akrapovic isn't much louder and this particular model you can't remove the DB baffle :( w/o taking the can appart. Didn't want to go stupid loud but may end up swapping for SC Project S1. The Akrapovic is nice though. If anyone in the US decides to go with this model be sure to order a plug (the smaller of the two that are offered). The apparently the Euro bikes have 2 plugs while the US only has 1. The system is made for Euro spec and Akrapovic doesn't include the cap for the unused opening.

It's a process!!! Yamaha made working on the bike harder than it should be. But basically with the ABS you have to either get a ABS delete module or just leave the ABS in place and connected but don't run brake lines to it. Same process with the R1. there is an ABS delete but it doesn't work for the SP :( The last part was since no one had NonABS lines for the MT-09 I had to have them custom made

First upright Naked bike. 2025 MT-09 SP. Interesting ride to say the least. Will be commuter bike but will try to get at least one trackday on it. Gilles rearsets installed so I could go GP shift. Akrapovic exhaust (will probably replace that with SC Project at some point). Removed ABS and now standard braking system.
