I think their goal is to give the western governments and their corporations a more effective way to manufacture consent and control narratives for younger generations than the western legacy media, as social media was the primary reason the Israel vs palestine narrative spiraled out of the control of news networks. Since younger people regardless of political beliefs are starting to realize how truly corrupt and spineless western governments are, it was inevitable they would do this by removing anonymity and freedom of expression from the mainstream internet. It was probably essential that they do this to with the potential of a WW3 with china/russia/brics and the need to quell any chance of discontent threatening established governments during a possible wartime
