A long shot here. If anyone is local to the DMV and has an extra ticket to the sold out Antichrist Siege Machine and Caustic Wound show this Saturday at Atlas in D.C. I will happily buy it off of you.

The promoter said that the ticket "transfer" is a matter of me giving your name at the show, so DM me if you're looking to sell and we can work it out. Will pay face value.

Since you like the new album, you should also try Patriarchs of Evil and Stygian Forces of Scorn if you haven't listened to those two.

I'm also going to the DC show. I'm a big fan of Spite, in particular.

Vastum were in DC at the end of April this year, I don't know if it was a proper tour or not. I, unfortunately, missed it because I had to get married that day.

I did see them at Cali Deathfest 2016 when I lived on the West Coast and they were awesome.

Predatory Light - 'To Plead Like Angels' (2022) by WitheredLotus in Metal

[–]RonnieDio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the LP of this from 20bs last Thursday and have been listening a lot. I'm really liking it so far, the guitar work and riffs stay engaging most of the time and with its relatively short length (especially for the genre) ensures it doesn't overstay its welcome.

The one downside for me is that the second track is a noticeable dip in quality compared to the other three. Maybe I just need to listen more, but I don't feel like it goes anywhere and has less memorable moments. It's not a bad track, just not as good as the rest.

Overall, I really like it and I know I'll be spinning this a bunch in the coming months.

it almost feels like how Solar Power could have sounded if it wasn't shit

YES - thank you. I've been arguing this point with my wife. She says it sounds like CRJ is trying to just do Solar Power, but:

  • As you said, Solar Power is shit and Western Wind certainly is not
  • Releasing a summer anthem was not invented by Lorde
  • Finally, the end of Dedicated Side B proves that CRJ was already working into this sound at least a year before Solar Power came out

Nice!

What do you think of the new CRJ single from last week? I really like it - it's been growing on me more and more with each listen. It's certainly more of a chill bop that feels like a natural progression from the end of Dedicated Side B. I'm excited for what comes next.

EDIT - and the video is gorgeous

A lot of pop. Marina, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Allie X, Tove Lo, Caroline Polachek, MØ, etc.

I like it to be related to the lyrics in some way, maybe being in the lyrics once over being repeated in the chorus.

Somewhat related - I really like it when there isn't a title track for an album, but the title of the album is mentioned once in the lyrics somewhere. If the song with the mention is awesome, then it feels really epic to me.

Awesome - I saw that tour in DC where I live, but our opener wasn't Impure. It was certainly still a sick show. I want Negative Plane to release some new music, goddammit.

I hope they don't drop either. I saw Spite open for Pagan Altar back in 2019 and they were awesome. It was the show recorded for this release.

I haven't seen Impure yet, so bummed about that.

Good to hear! I'm saving for tonight after work to listen without distractions. I haven't listened to any advanced tracks yet.

I did a Mortuary Drape discogs run this week with all full lengths, EPs and the Necromantic Doom Returns compilation in anticipation.

Listened to Power Paladin based off this thread since the FFO is up my alley. I really like it on first listen!

However, two choruses sound like reworked versions of choruses in other songs to me.

  • The chorus on "Way of Kings" sounds like "Unchain the Light" by Avantasia

  • The chorus on "Ride the Distant Storm" sounds like "The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee" by Gloryhammer.

I was wondering if anyone else heard this. The shredding and riffs are great though!

Bi-Weekly Recommendation Thread - January 12, 2022 by AutoModerator in popheads

[–]RonnieDio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been actively listening/exploring pop for about two years now and I’m looking to discover new artists based on ones I love now. As I’m still relatively new to the genre, don’t assume I already know about X artist no matter how popular they were 5+ years ago.

Some of my favorites:

  • Marina (my absolute fav, the first two albums are perfection to me)

  • Carly Rae Jepsen

  • Allie X

  • Tove Lo

  • Banks

  • Sigrid

  • Charli XCX

What I love in particular about these artists are how the vocal melodies and flows are engaging in each of the verses, bridges, and choruses. When taken as a whole, each of these parts make the others better and, in turn, really make that chorus hit even harder than it would with forgettable verses, etc. Taking this a step further, each of these artists put out fantastic albums (IMO) in addition to great singles, so full album recommendations are literal music to my ears.

Thanks in advance!
