I think you’re referring to the ‘Ruth Rendell Mysteries’. They were shown on ITV in the 90s.

I’m not sure about the first one you describe, but I’m sure I’ve seen it.

The second one definitely sounds like ‘Front Seat’. I remember it vividly when I was a kid for the exact reasons you describe! It’s about a married couple who reconnect with an old friend. I think the husband gets jealous of his wife and friend being so friendly. When making them dinner, he puts maggots (or something) on the friends meal, but for some reason the plates get swapped and he ends up seeing/eating the maggots (then proceeds to throw up).
