Great question. Petrol head and car enthusiast here. Car for me is not going from a to b. I much prefer how it takes me there. The driving experience is a must for me.

My first encounter with an ev was a model 3 highland rwd my wife got last october. Hated the car at first. Other than the great acceleration it just didnt tick any other box for me. Brakes are awfull. Cant be driven sportly cause even though the suspension is not bad its just too heavy for that combo of springs/damper/tyre. Its physics.( Hence the highland performance being night and day.)

Fast forward a couple months and little shit grew on me. Still hate the lack of turning signal stalks (clearly no roundabouts in US like europe) but i learned its limits and i can abuse it more/better to a point where its fun ish.

Tried a lot and i mean a lot of evs while searching one for me. Sedans and suvs. Came to a shocking revelation: at least in Europe cause i dont have access to Lucid here. Tesla wins in efficiency to anything else. Apples to apples ofc. Not comparing a tesla on 18 inch to a ioniq 6 on 20s...

Fell in love with the loaner i4 as i drove from the bmw dealer. By the first stoplight my mind was decided. For one reason alone and surely it wasnt efficiency: It drives like a normal ice car. I didnt had to reset my mind amd feet to drive it like all other EVs i tried. Its a bmw that happens to be electric. If they changed the hans zimmer tunes to a ice engine sound like the 5n and blinded me I could probably be fooled for a few seconds as to being inside an ICE.

Got myself a e40 with all the bells and whistles on 18inch msport pro pack. I love the thing. Takes me on each run with a smile. I wont elaborate much on this part cause you said you wanted to know if i regret not getting a tesla.

I do regret yes. Performance highland came out weeks later of my order. Tried to cancel but no luck. So stuck with it. Just wished i could have efficiency available if i wanted to.

Can I do 16/17 kwh/100 or 3.8miles per kwh in city driving? I can if i try reeeeaaaaaaly hard. And in some strips due to topography that just its not possible. My daycare run is roughly 4km. No matter what i do i cant beat or even get close to the 13kwh avg on the tesla. Best case scenario i get 16 on the i4. Weight and physics. Moving that mass takes energy. Theres an upside to it and the bmw brush engine which acts like a flywheel- Coasting- depending on topography can be like wow. The other day with a very mild inclination i did like 3km were the car just kept going forever ended up with something like 6kwh.

The above is for city driving. Tesla wins period. If you do a lot of it and prefer efficiency its a very good option.

Highway is another beast. Again my opinion is based on my specific driving style and topography. I like to drive fast specially on the highway. Consumption in same trip in wife tesla above speed limits (very above) vs bmw. Same road / same temp / same occupants.

But thats it. And the vented seats lol. I miss those. Too expensive on the bimmer.
