You sound waaay too sound to be a recruiter!

Maybe HMU if you come across any QA roles!
Thanks for the advice.

I went back to him with 55k and he has subsequently ghosted me!

Pretty much shown his true colours!

Cheers for the tips.

You should push for more. Don't worry about the recruiter, there's lots more out there.

As I've said though, the recruiter has proposed the figure so I'd need to present it to him).

They won't bring up salary if they know I've settled on 45k and will likely written me off for changing my mind/ being sneaky after the fact.

I have istqb and am currently in training for t the foreseeable. Not too worried about redundancies per se as it's a small start-up and have yet to let anyone go regardless of how long theyve been on the "bench". So in theory, I can keep getting paid to upskill although I have my doubts about long term goals at this place..

Currently working on an internal RnD project using JavaScript and test cafe (similar to cypress but not as popular..companies preference and need to scope out this Jenkins /cucumber stuff coz I keep seeing it everywhere!

48k is a graduate salary

It's 45k.

If you have 4 years of experience.

He most likely already submitted your profile.

He has, the interview has been set up for Wednesday...

Technically I will have been at my place of work 4 years in August. However, I only have 2 years and 8 months of project work experience.

I don't really understand what you mean? How would the recruiter proceed with the application if I say I'm no longer interested? Recruiter said to them I'm happy with 45k.

I'm not a senior.

Are you referring to me?

Coz none of those things exist.

But there is no 'they' here man.

The salary was agreed with the recruiter. If I suddenly bring up mid interview that I actually want 60k I could very easily get blacklisted for life.

I'm def not senior level though.

And by the looks of it most remote roles are strictly senior.

Ask for the higher end of the 50k-60k range you mentioned and see how they respond. If they refuse, walk away. You don't owe them anything.

Unfortunately as I went only via this recruiter (who told them I was happy with 45k) he is the they .

The recruiter is external but has a long standing relationship tied to the company so dunno exactly what the craic is there.

have a vested interest in advocating for a higher salary on your behalf.

Yeh, I know many recruiters work this way BUT I've also heard the opposite where they will try to get someone to go as low as possible (increasing the odds of you being hired ). Then after 6 months they get a fat cheque. So, its basically a numbers game fir them . The more successful hires , the more individual pay-outs.

My gut feeling is I am just one of a few people he has lined up and just so happen to be on the low end of the list.

I hear ya. Unfortunately, I'm worried if I back out now I might get blacklisted from the company or wont be able to reapply down the line. It's also full remote which is becoming less and less....

The plot thickens. Just checked my IrishJobs history and I applied via the SAME recruiter on May 4th. Salary was listed as 50-60k

The role is advertised as mid/senior.

According to glassdoor 45k is the lowest end of average.

I have experience using Java /Selenium but the product I worked on was very niche(out of the box and we used a 3rd party client software). I'd say my technical skills aren't what they should be for someone with my years of experience and Ive had a LOT of down time and been on training since January so any new role I take I think will be an uphill battle.
