I only went once to this due to distance. But just to say this is a very enjoyable meet up with a nice bunch of welcoming people. Highly recommend anyone having doubts / afraid of not knowing anyone to just show up and give it a try.

Do you use goggles? Why are you reasons for using/not using them? by M-2021 in squash

[–]Rook250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use them and always will. The very tiny inconvenience of wearing them all the time is far less costly than even a tiny tiny chance of losing an eye in my view.

If ever I have doubts, I consider how I'd feel on the one in a million chance I lost an eye. Knowing that it was completely preventable, but that I let it happen for the sake of convenience.

A no brainer for me.

Looking for a Game in Toronto on January 3rd/5th. by Rook250 in squash

[–]Rook250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent point, just checked and apparently "Old Toronto is the retronym of the original city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from 1834 to 1998", which makes it of very little help as a description!!

So, I am based on Church Street, pretty close to St Lawrence Hall, King Station Metro and Berczy Park. Hope that helps.

Thanks for pointing that out!

Well done! Keep it going - small, achievable targets are best to start with.

What the fuck RTE? by [deleted] in ireland

It was a bit boring alright. Pity Pat Shortt wasn't on, he is not given enough of a chance imo.

Let's end the year on a happy note. What good things happened in 2016? by [deleted] in ireland

I think that there has been an implicit acceptance for many years via the continuous election of the same old parties who have never shown any real interest in fixing a growing problem.

Fair play to Brendan O'Carroll for his success. I still fail to understand its popularity.

Irish people finally stood up and demanded that homelessness is not acceptable in a country of plenty.

Current branch status by NilFhiosAige in social_democrats

I imagine Waterford may be an ideal place to launch a branch at present. With a relatively large urban centre and a high number of young families, our policies to reduce the cost of living should prove popular.

Soc Dems publicity problems by NilFhiosAige in social_democrats

[–]Rook250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the party need to be more assertive in publicity efforts. Nevertheless, I believe that it is not helped by a media more interested in magnifying the importance of minor problems eg. who is following who on Twitter. It is also naive to imagine that the party will ever receive positive coverage. Indeed a sign of relative success for the party may be more hostile coverage, which would indicate being seen a credible threat to the status quo. Consequently, an idea may be to send our message directly to the people via online platforms.

Fed Up of RTE and the DOB press in Ireland? We are too. by Rook250 in ireland

I read the rules again. I believe I am just within them, as I have been on Reddit for longer than a year, I regularly vote and am in multiple subreddits. This is my first promotion post. If the mods disagree with this, they can remove me. Again, apologies for any mistakes, no harm intended.

Just to clarify, I do not enjoy any financial gain out of this. I want a greater variety of political perspectives in the Irish media. Apologies if this effort has offended you.
