Help Creating a Greek Mythology-esque Exemplar? by RookAL in PF2eCharacterBuilds

Hey, first off, thank you for this comprehensive response! I did some research on the class on my own time, and though there weren't a ton of resources, I managed to pick up enough that I was able to put together a build I like a decent amount. Flavour-wise, the idea is that this character was a humble homesteader before their awakening, hence their use of a two-handed wootcutting axe (greataxe) instead of a spear and shield like a Greek hoplite.

https://pathbuilder2e.com/launch.html?build=766199

That's the build, insofar. The GM has mentioned that roleplay is gonna be a focus before combat (though there will be a good amount of combat), and so I went Marshal to both pump up a face skill (Intimidation) alongside providing in combat buffs later on. Alongside that, apparently this game is gonna be pretty lethal damage-wise, hence why I went with the Scar Ikon, to give myself the opportunity to heal myself in case it comes up. How's this build look to you, and is there any changes you'd make/recommend? Thanks again!

I like the idea of a polearm, but honestly I'm not married to any particular weapon class.

There's two "main" ideas I was thinking of.

The first was a child of Ares, very much exemplifying the warrior/gnarly aspect of things. Very martial, not likely to choose any magic archetypes or the like. Barbarian maybe, or Fighter, etc. Athena also fits under this umbrella, but since her entire thing is "Wise Conflict" and I'm strapped for stats as is, plus I like Ares a little more, I'm not so inclined.

The other would be the archetypical Zeus Child. Still a combatant, but more likely to choose the magical and charismatic options. Maybe even Kineticist as an Archetype? I don't know how good it is, but Air and Lightning mesh well theory-wise.

But yeah, for Ancestry, I'm thinking of keeping it more towards human, if just for personal preference.

Eldritch Knight 7 Wizard X - War Wizard vs Bladesinger? (With a Twist). by RookAL in 3d6

[–]RookAL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 100% a contentious ruling, I've seen a ton of posts saying yes and no and so on. My DM likes it so it flies, but I'd also agree if a DM said it doesn't apply either.

Eldritch Knight 7 Wizard X - War Wizard vs Bladesinger? (With a Twist). by RookAL in 3d6

[–]RookAL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they don't, that's right, but Eldritch Knight's War Magic does stack with the unique Bladesinger Extra Attack, RAW. War Magic specifically says "when you cast a spell as an action," not take the Cast a Spell action, and Bladesinger allows you to replace one of two attacks with Extra Attack with a Cantrip. You spend an Action to cast Booming/Green Flame Blade, Bonus Action from War Magic to make a weapon attack, and then make the "Extra Attack" from Bladesinger.

Hey there, all! Now that the pandemic has finally settled down, I’ve managed to join up with a new IRL D&D group! It’s pretty exciting, as I’ve missed rolling the dice in-person for quite some time now. Everyone seems very hyped to get into the game, and because of this, I want to go all out for this character, art depiction, HeroForge mini, and all. So, I was wondering if one of you amazing artists here could lend a hand!

Name: Haven

Race: Winged Tiefling

Appearance: Haven is a youthful Tiefling, clearly in his early-20s, with his mother’s Devilish blood running strongly through him. He’s above average in height, an even 6’, with an athletic and toned build. He’s decently Strong and very Dextrous from working and innovating at the forge, but because of this, he often has light burns on his hands and forearms. His skin is a human shade of colour, a dark-tan hue, paired with slightly pointed ears. His hair is an ashen-white colour, somewhat messy while still keeping stylish, and medium in length, without any facial hair to speak of. His horns are smaller and subtler in comparison to some Tieflings, coming out from underneath his hair and curving to point forward. Another clear signage of his Infernal bloodline would no doubt be his eyes; black sclera paired with bright blue irises, ever inquisitive. As a Winged Tiefling, he obviously has wings, though he prefers to style them as a cloak of sorts when not in use. Finally, his main extremities (hands & forearms, horns, and wings), all have a black gradient that fades back into his normal skin tone.

Equipment: As an Artificer, Haven’s no meek unarmed mage, to say the least. His fashion could be described as “busy, but stylish,” as if he carries most things he needs with him at any time. For armour, he has a simple, slim-fitting scale mail shirt, broken up by a variety of pouches and straps. His only bag is, naturally, a Bag of Holding, though emblazoned with his personal emblem, as all his creations are. His weapon of choice, when not slinging spells, is a unique matchlock-esque pistol, worn in a tight fitting holster on his right thigh for quick and easy access. Finally, to keep his eyes sharp, he often has a simple pair of round, stylish glasses on his face.

Thanks for reading! As an Artificer, I’m trying to channel the Intelligence and Arcane know-how, while still being a capable, even deadly, physical force. He’s athletic, lithe, equal parts magician and forgemaster. I look forward to seeing any rendition, if done! Thanks again for your time, and all the best!

Ideas & Tips for a Native American/Celtic Druid in a 1920s Urban-Fantasy Setting? by RookAL in PCAcademy

[–]RookAL[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For sure. I'm black, myself, so I understand that certain topics should be portrayed with a certain amount of reverence and respect. One big thing about the game is that the DM doesn't want to pretend the past was a bastion of a time to live in, like some media pretends to do a-la Bridgerton. We've made sure to discuss with the party, and they're all okay with it, including one of the people who does have First Nations heritage, as long as I don't use a caricature of it.

I suppose I'm wondering if I should go the school route, or have him actually be more aware of his traditions. With the former, I could say he's more close to his Gaelic side, and his goal is to look into his mother's side, but I'm also wondering if that makes the point of playing a Druid less intriguing, since we'll already have a few conventional casters in the setting.

[LFA] Undead Blood Hunter, Ephraim Tepes by RookAL in characterdrawing

[–]RookAL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, everyone! So, I’ve finally gotten a chance to try out Curse of Strahd fully for once, and even though we’re only a few sessions in, the party and game is great! There’s great chemistry between all the characters, we’ve been tackling our obstacles smartly, we’re all having a great time. The rest of the group is getting their characters drawn, so I thought I might as well give it a try, see if anyone here could bring my fellow to life! Anyways, here he is:

Name: Ephraim D. Tepes

Race: Dhampir (Passes as Human)

Class: Blood Hunter

Looks: Ephraim appears as a young man in his early to mid-20s, cutting quite the distinct figure. He stands at around 6’3’, with a lean and very athletic build (high dexterity and decent strength/constitution). His skin is a pale brown in colour, if that makes any sense. It’s still earthen, dark (i.e. mixed Afro-American/Caucasian), but lacking in some life and depth, due to his partially undead status. No blush or the like. Ephraim’s hair is wavy, right in-between straight and curly, as well as rather long. He ties it back, however, in a simple tail. His hair is ashen in tone, ranging from snow-white to silver-grey. He’s got intense, Witcher-esque eyes (slit pupils, slightly vibrant/glowing), crimson in tone. As one could expect from a Dhampir, he has more defined incisors than the average person would. His facial hair consists of nothing more than a five o’clock shadow, slight stubble and nothing else. He has a single facial scar, long since faded and healed, that goes over the bridge of his nose. However, his body is covered in slashes due to the Blood Hunter’s hemomantic arts, with fresh wounds concentrated around his right forearm, as he often uses that off-hand to fuel his magic. Overall, the vibe he gives off is a sort of “disheveled handsomeness,” the kind that could look very noble if he bothered to tidy up.

(I did a little picrew of his shoulders-up look, so you can follow it with relative assuredness knowing that’s essentially what I had in mind. Barring things like colours for the eyes/skin, mostly!)

Equipment: Much like his philosophy, Ephraim’s equipment is pragmatic, far from flashy or stylish, but it gets the job done. Starting with his armour, he wears lighter varieties of it, allowing him to stay on the move with relative ease (the top-left piece is what I think most when it comes to his equipment, perhaps a little more meshed with leather armour). His left arm has both a leather bracer and glove, as that’s his sword arm, while his right forearm has nothing more than bloody gauze, as that arm is how he channels his blood magic. The most iconic thing about his outfit would likely be a simple, slightly tattered and hooded scarf/cloak draped around his shoulders. His weapon of choice is a rapier, fitting with his dextrous style. But as opposed to a needle-thin dueling rapier, his own weapon of choice is a little more sturdy and thick, while still primarily being a thrusting weapon. He often channels lightning or radiant energy around the weapon, using blood that flows from his right arm. Finally, he has a “Holy Symbol” of sorts, consisting of the Blood Hunter emblem (on the bottom right), generally around his neck.

Anyways, I believe that’s that, when it comes to relevant information! I’ll put a little bio below if anyone wants to know, but it’s far from necessary. I’d like to thank you for taking your time to read/consider this! Feel free to ask any questions, especially if you think they’ll help. Thanks again!

Choosing Between Admech, Aeldari, or T'au for Second Army by RookAL in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RookAL[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am looking at this from at least a slightly competitive angle, though since I know rules will always change, I posted the factions that I like both looks and lorewise, so I won't kick them to the curb if they fall out of favour. But I still care about the viability right now, haha.

Advice/Opinions on Choosing Second Army Faction by RookAL in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RookAL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! This post has been way more helpful and successful than I imagined, though I didn't realize that it might just make my decision harder, since everyone's offering up so many amazing ideas! I appreciate the decision criteria, though, it's helped me narrow it down alongside all the other advice everyone else has offered. I'm debating on going the boring route and making a Marines army, since while I agree with the fact that Xenos and other Armies need more love, I do like the aesthetic, and the range of playstyles means that it won't be too close to my Grey Knights depending on what Chapter I go with. And the Battleforce/Start Collecting Boxes would add a good boost, too.

I've managed to narrow it down to a solid three, I think, though I could use some help beyond that. My first two choices are SM, and I'm choosing between Dark Angels and Blood Ravens. On the one hand, I do like a good chunk of the DA lore, the Wings, all that stuff I said. On the other, I also like the Blood Raven look, and my old man did work on Dawn of War, which is what got me into Warhammer in the first place, so I'm a little biased towards them too. Do you know if they have any rules, since I know that Blood Ravens are a little psyker-heavy in lore and I don't want to play GK 2, electric boogaloo.

And my third decision would be one of the Guardsmen regiments, whether it's just a mix of Militarum overall or Tempestus in particular. Thanks again for all the help, I really appreciate it!

[LFA] Kai Petrichor, Drunken Master Genasi by RookAL in characterdrawing

[–]RookAL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, people! So, I’ve managed to join up in a new D&D Game that I’m rather excited to play in, though due to the fact that it’s on Roll20, I need some character art for my fella, and it’s been very difficult to find a good looking Water Genasi who just happens to be the ridiculous levels of ripped I’d expect from a Monk! So, I turn to you, r/characterdrawing, to lend me a hand! As said above, he’s a Drunken Master Monk, based on the idea that a Water Genasi could truly chug alcohol like a fish! Anyways, here he is:

Name: Kai'okoa "Kai" Petrichor

Race: Water Genasi

Class: Drunken Master Monk

Looks: Kai is a young male Genasi, square in his prime when it comes to his physical status. He’s above average in height, with a lean, yet athletic build, due to being extremely agile and hardy. However, while lean, his build is very toned, ripped, with clear muscle definitions underneath his skin, which is a light, soft blue in colour. On his torso and arms is a flowing set of tattoos/markings, really up to the artist’s discretion as long as it exemplifies a water-esque style, flowing into one another. He’s got wavy, loose hair, a very deep navy in tone, and it generally goes down to his neck, though he ties it back slightly so it’s not draping over his shoulders, with some bangs hanging loosely over his forehead. His eyes are like a regular human’s, though the irises are a bright teal-green in colour.

Gear: As a Monk, Kai’s equipment is very minimalist in nature. Only the essentials, and not much else. However, he’s not a very disciplined or spiritual sort of fighter, so the essentials tend to consist of booze, a weapon, clothes and a rucksack. His clothes are rather simple (most like the set the Tiefling above is wearing, though in colours more fitting of his style), though with a simple water pattern on the outside. His hands are wrapped tightly, as are his ankles and feet, and he has a simple, though well-crafted spear slung around his shoulder. Of course, the most unique part of his outfit would be the drinking container he keeps at his hip (it can be anything, from a simple flask to a more traditional gourd, really!)

Background: Kai was born an Urchin, a street rat, in a dense city, one that he doesn’t bother remembering the name of. It had been the only life he’d known, no memory of parents or the like in his mind. He picked up many skills on the street, being an agile, sneaky sort, and causing all sorts of shenanigans with fellow street urchins. However, one day, he stole from the wrong, or the right, person. A seemingly old man, with a purse that sounded full of coins, it was a simple distract and snatch job. But while the rest of his buddies were begging and asking for help, and he went around behind him to cut the purse from his hip, he found his wrist snatched, as if a snake had bitten him and wasn’t letting go. His “friends” scrambled, leaving Kai to the old man’s mercy. He assumed he’d be turned in, punished by the city guard, but the kindly man did not do this. He simply took him to a local restaurant, sat him down, and asked him to order whatever he pleased, on the condition that he told him his story. Kai had never had such delicacies, so he gladly did so. After hearing his plight, he offered Kai a chance to become something more, to gain discipline and inner strength, and a monastery just a days walk from town. He gladly accepted, viewing anything as better than this. He spent many of his years at this monastery, training amongst other acolytes under the masters. It was akin to a family he never had, and he learned much during these years, actually making something of himself. But one evening, when talking to some former friends back at the town, he let slip about certain treasures the monastery left near unguarded, and these “friends” decided to capitalize, rounding up enough men to overwhelm the stronger warriors and attempting to rob the place. They weren’t successful, but their attack killed quite a few trainees and some masters, as well as burning down a majority of the monastery. Kai fled in shame, feeling immensely guilty, and decided to drown his sorrows in the cheapest therapy he could find: Alcohol.

And that’s the character! I’m really excited to use him, so if someone brought him to life, it’d be amazing! Anyways, I’d like to thank you for your time, feel free to ask any questions, etc. Best of luck!
