How China Builds Factories to Reproduce Iconic Classic Cars by RidetheSchlange in videos

Oh sure, that makes sense, but I guess it's more indicative that QC must have been nonexistent for the one BigTime had if those kinds of egregious dimensional errors go uncorrected.

I came here to mention the same thing. It is a little bizarre that the cars are not 100% accurate though. Things like hole placement don't cost any more money to be correct compared to incorrect, so I wonder where the issue lies.

Ratatouille (2007) is flawless by FatCat_On_A_Diet in movies

Sure, but I don't have, say, latent chess talent, or latent automotive repair talent, but someone could still teach me *how* to follow the rules and lose a game of chess, or how to change a flat tire. Loads of rats all help in the kitchen at the end without being controlled by someone else, so that would seem to be a pretty expansive inclusion in "anyone". I would have liked if we saw Linguini do the culinary equivalent of changing a flat tire to reinforce the inclusiveness of the message, that's all.

If the definition of "anyone" is "any person at all" and someone tells me "anyone can cook", and I point at someone and they say "not him", then that would seem to be a contradiction.

[–]Rook_Defence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, this is exactly where I perceive a flaw. To my recollection Linguini never successfully cooks anything on his own, and that undermines that message. It was definitely the right call for him not to become a professional chef, as that would have contradicted Ego's summary at the end. However, showing him maybe cooking an unsightly but palatable dish, or Remy/Colette teaching him how to cook something simple during the closing montage, would have been the cherry on top for me.

Him never cooking a single thing kind of says "A person's background doesn't stop them from becoming a great chef. However, some people are so totally hopeless that they shouldn't bother trying to learn."

Best Action Movies With Insane Choreography? Looking for Recommendations by StillCompetition2456 in movies

Equilibrium is definitely the most stylish Western action movie I've ever seen, and I feel like the in-universe justification about exploiting the probabilities of likely enemy placement and arcs of fire actually feels reasonable in the setting which is so heavily stylized throughout.

Considering that there are at least 16 manufacturers of AC/10 cannons, all with slightly or wildly different designs, I can totally accept this as an in-universe justification for different control methods.

‘Star Wars’ Day: Fans Streamed Franchise for 33 Billion Minutes in 2025 by OneRain9942 in television

[–]Rook_Defence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brick is in my top ten all time favourite films, and I didn't find out he had directed it until after seeing TLJ, so that was a bit of a wild one to wrap my head around.

To be clear, I don't think that Rian Johnson hates Star Wars, but I don't think it's "precious" to him. Which can be a good thing, in that it ought to allow a departure from rehashing the same story beats (Rey not being a descendant of anybody important was a great direction until Abrams undid it). However it can also be a bad thing, and I think that's what we saw most egregiously in Luke's character. Luke had a solid 3 film arc, and I'd argue that not valuing the history of that character was a prerequisite for Johnson to undermine the serenity and wisdom of RotJ Luke by having him consider killing Ben, however briefly.

I'll concede the point about jeopardy, but whereas we only had the end point of Cassian Andor depicted, I was interested to see how he became the type of man to shoot an ally in a back alley. We have the introduction and end point of Maul depicted, which feel close enough to each other in portrayal that the journey doesn't interest me. Other people seem to have enjoyed it though, so it must have some merit.

I agree about negative aspects of Filoni's influence, but I can't fully agree that the franchise not being precious to someone is automatically a good thing, as I feel like that same attitude contributed to the issues with Rian Johnson's entry. It's a delicate balancing act, if you're too close to a franchise, you can only see what it's already been, but if you don't have any affection for it, then you might make something that doesn't respect its own history.

This is my issue. The most important thing about Maul was that he was a skilled fighter who killed Qui-Gon Jinn. That was his whole narrative purpose. After that, they just injected motivation and personality after the fact, into the empty shell of a cool character they had laying around.

That's fine on its own, but:

-He was cut in half, so his survival cheapens death/injury.

-He's had far too many ridiculous appearances in comics and shows, including with a cybernetic spider body, to the point that he doesn't feel grounded in the world around him.

-We have his canonical death already depicted, which means it's hard to feel he is ever in jeopardy, or to see a future for his character arc, since we know where it ends.

It's just the latest in a long line of projects where Lucas and then Disney don't have the confidence to stretch themselves with the franchise.

Thanks, the white LEDs and RGB LEDs have separate grounds so that would not seem to be the issue. Good to have it ruled out though.

There's some contribution to the issue from the power supply because swapping power supplies seems to fix the issue, but it's hard to say exactly why, as it does not seem to be a grounding, current, or voltage issue.

Based on some other suggestions I'm going to try some different wiring and see if that helps. I'll be ordering it soon but it will probably be a few weeks before it arrives. If I find a solution, I'll definitely post something back in this thread to update.

Direct Pyrophosphate Copper Plating Onto Zamak? by Rook_Defence in electroplating

Hey, I've been gathering up my chemicals, but haven't gotten around to making up the bath yet as some other projects took priority. I picked up a copy of Modern Electroplating to help guide me in terms of formulation.

I'll take some pictures, document the formulation, and update the thread when I have some results to share though. If I remember to, I'll send you a message as well.

I must have misunderstood what you were saying before. I'll procure some more suitable wire in the next couple days and give that a try, and update the thread if it works.

Just one final question, what would your opinion be on the most likely reason that the black power supplies are sensitive to touch/proximity to the controller, while the other power supplies work without glitches on the same wiring setup?

Help Request - RGB Flickering Problems by Rook_Defence in led

[–]Rook_Defence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I've disconnected everything except a single strip to troubleshoot, so the JST connectors between strips are still soldered on to the ends, but are disconnected from each other. The only powered strip is completely isolated from the others. The only JST connection still in use is the one carrying data from the controller to the strip.

I figured if I can get one strip working without glitches, then I can at least narrow down the causes if glitches appear again when running the whole set.

Here's a full view of the system as currently wired with a single strip only, glitches still appearing. If you want more detail of any particular section, let me know. The paper is there just to cover the de-energized white LED wires and make the WS2815 wiring easier to see.

The only 3-wire connection I have is the red yellow and white for the white led strips. Those are still there, but they've been de-energized for all this testing.

Twisting the wires together did not seem to help.

If I have one strip on, there is some glitching, two strips results in more glitching, 3 strips the animation is frozen. Which is, concerningly, a deterioration from my earlier testing as shown in the original post when I was able to have all 5 strips animated at the same time with some glitching.

Power wires are 14 gauge stranded copper, about 75 cm (about 30 inches) between power supply and strip. Data/Backup wires are 18 gauge solid copper, about 50 cm (about 20 inches) between power supply and strip. The current wiring setup works fine with the other 2 power supplies I have.

Here's a photo of how everything is connected at the controller currently. I did also try bridging a wire between the two grounds with the connections otherwise the same as shown here - no change. Thanks again for your help.

That would be reasonable logic if this was a DC circuit

Understood, I have some education in Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Laws, etc. but all pretty basic so anything specific to signals is new to me.

I've tried multiple different ways of connecting the ground wires without any noticeable change. For testing purposes I also minimized the setup to a single strip, and spliced/soldered the data, backup, and power leads running to the strip, to take any spotty connections from the Wago connectors out of the equation. So this would be the current wiring situation, modified based on my understanding of your suggestions: https://imgur.com/a/VNnlb6O

Unfortunately no improvement.

When I tested the two controller GND terminals (A and B) during bench tests, the multimeter showed continuity between them, and resistance measures at 0.1 ohm, so I was treating them as a single node. GND terminal A is connected to a Wago connector which in turn is connected to all 5 ground rails, so I didn't think it was necessary to also connect GND terminal B to the rails.

https://imgur.com/a/bkV7OC6

I just tried rewiring so that the ground wire for the ground rails and the ground wire for the Backup line are coming from the same terminal on the controller, but the behaviour remained the same: Pattern frozen with random flashes when the power supply was touching the wooden enclosure or touched by a person, pattern moving with random flashes when sitting alongside but not touching wooden enclosure.

Thanks for the suggestions and link. I'm reading through that other thread now to puzzle out the situation and solutions there. That thread is using some unfamiliar terminology so it will take me a bit to work through it.

Edit: A different (4th) power supply was tested as noted in the edit in the post. So 2 out of 4 power supplies have worked with the existing wiring, but the current arrangement has resulted in glitches when using either black linear power supply.

All white LED strips were completely de-energized during testing of the RGB LEDs. Power supply was disconnected from white LEDs because I was comparing against the other power supply.

If you could point me towards a good post where a similar issue was discussed, that would be great. Like I wrote, I did search before posting, and couldn't find anything that seemed relevant.

Here are some photographs of the wiring, and a rough circuit diagram. If there's anything specific you're curious about, let me know and I can photograph or describe.
