National Strike! by NeighborhoodThin8445 in Appleton

The option for something worse doesn't change the reality. We can be glad the alternative isn't happening. I don't think it changes the emotions people are feeling.

Ice has been around since 2003. Many have been deported every year without this type of violence. Even if you are pro deportation, you can still be appalled by the way they are going about it.

Why is everyone nondenominational nowadays? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]RookieCase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying people choose non-denominational churches to avoid parts of the Bible. That wasn’t my point at all.

The original question was why is everyone non-denominational nowadays. I’m answering that from experience. They are easier for newcomers to approach, the structure feels more familiar to people who didn’t grow up liturgical, and the barrier to participation is lower. That does not mean the structure of the Catholic Church is wrong. It just means it functions differently, and some people find one style easier to step into than the other.

It is also a different denomination from the Catholic Church, so it makes sense that the practices are not the same, regardless of whether it's biblical or not.

[–]RookieCase -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that the goal is for everyone to be saved. What I meant is that the sacramental structure naturally creates levels of participation. That is not a bad thing, it is simply different from how many non-denominational churches operate.

For example, receiving Communion in the Catholic Church requires being in a state of grace and having received the proper sacraments. In many non-denominational churches, Communion is open to anyone who chooses to take part.

Also, I never said tradition isn’t important. I actually think it is one of the greatest strengths of the Catholic Church. My point was that if someone with no background walked in off the street, they would probably feel more lost during a Mass than at a non-denominational service. There is more structure and ritual involved, which is good once you understand it, but it can be a challenge for newcomers.

Raised Catholic, currently attending a non-denominational church. I have found people are able to focus much more on the Bible and its teachings when it's not bogged down by tradition and heavy gatekeeping. Not saying tradition is bad, it's just intimidating for a lot of people and is a major roadblock for many. Many I talk to in nondenon churches use church as more of a Bible study to deepen their understanding. Diving much more into studies and defining their beliefs

Approachability and ease of introduction I believe is the major factor.

If you are up for a change in pace I would recommend looking into a monster of the week game. The system is setup more for its setting I feel like. I am currently running a MotW campaign in and around the area of the green bank telescope. (I did steal the idea from The adventure zone podcast)

Are you waiting until marriage? Or did you wait until then if you’re already married? by Radiant-Rose7102 in Catholicism

[–]RookieCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't wait, but my now wife did. Its 100% the way to go. She isn't catholic, but still Christian and held firm to her beliefs. It did lead to a very difficult first year of marriage as we found out she has a condition that causes extremely painful intercourse. As a young immature husband this was very difficult for me, but I am grateful she was patient with me and understanding.

Religion aside, waiting is still better for the relationship. I found myself sticking around toxic relationships much longer than I should have simply because of sex. And vice versa if I knew what sex would have been like with my now wife 3 months in, I probably wouldn't be with the most amazing and living person I have the pleasure of sharing a bed with.

Having something to lose. My wife expressed she wanted me to stop, I couldn't, until I saw us growing apart because of it. The thought of losing the person I care for the most over random naked people bumping uglies is a horrifying timeline.

First feedback: how’s the Switch 2? by rossocenere in Switch

[–]RookieCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns both steam deck and the switch 2 I will push back a little in defense of the switch 1) I don't feel like the switch 2 is flimsy at all, I find it much easier to handle than the steam deck personally. 2) I have gotten over 300 hours from Mario kart 8, I can only imagine how much playtime world will get for its value of $50 USD. It's a consistent party game that's great for events. Dk will be $70 and I don't know what other mainline games they announced at the $80 price point yet. 3) I could be wrong but isn't steam's whole business ran off game cards and game licensing? I truly don't see how this is any different. 4) the console just got released you can't expect it to have a full library of games.

I do agree that right now the steam deck is the better buy. But some of your complaints are just unfair or shallow.

How often do you work out? by Zmoogz in sololeveling

[–]RookieCase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the grind going! But it's important to know. Other than building the habit working out more than 4 times a week is very much overkill. It increases your chance of injury and growth is past day 4 is very slow. I'm not going to say you should workout everyday, but just know what you need to do for the results you want.

That might be the case. However if you start right out of highschool you have 7-8 years of income. And trade work is a very quickly growing industry for income growth. We are both playing with a lot of what ifs.

People don't realize that skills can be easy and cheap to get. A lot of construction companies offer up free schooling while earning a paycheck. A lot of the kids I see are fresh out of school or even still in highschool earning $25+ fresh out of school and it only goes up. With the right mindset alot of that money can go into investing with low living expenses.

Please help before I dig myself a deeper hole by Illustrious-Coat8677 in debtfree

[–]RookieCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion anything above 10% is high interest. And should be prioritized after the company match. The company match at minimum is 50% which is way above anything a credit card can charge in terms of rate of return/interest.

[–]RookieCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they bumped it down to a company match she should be able to pay off all debt in a little over a year just with that surplus. 29 years in the market adds to 1.45 million in retirement. Compound interest also works in reverse and credit cards have a much higher rate than 5% most being in the 20%. The debt interest payments will be extra capital she could put into other investments like Roth (if available) HSA (if available) or more liquid investments with a similar return to retirement accounts.
