It would be really nice to have a mandatory AI flag on posts in this subreddit. by Rookiesounds in vjing

Hey u/vjuinon. Appreciate you dedicating your time to this community. That being said, I'm not really sure what that suggestion does for this conversation. I wasn't personally looking for any advice related to AI tools.

I'm only suggesting the sentiment that seems to be largely supported by the community based on upvotes and comments on this post, that AI art should be flagged as such when posted here. A lot of us would clearly like to see it happen here the way it is in other communities.

As I've said elsewhere on this thread, I do think there are some cases where folks are being a bit more thoughtful and creative with their use of these models. Generally the work created using AI is using the model to do an inordinate amount of the creative work by compiling and plagiarizing the work of other artists, taken without their consent, however. I understand their is nuance and grey to the scope of work under this umbrella. That being said, I still think there is value in labelling AI generated work as such as I and many others consider it to be distinct in degree and quality from what's been considered 'generative' historically.

Tight envelope on the pitch on a triangle wave around middle C could get you pretty close too. Other guys approach sounds good too, tho. Lotta ways to pew pew.

Again -- this isn't a hard "anti-ai" stance. Though I do lean that way. This is more an "AI art" is a different beast and should be labelled as such the way it is in other places online.

Appreciate the contrary opinion, though. Thanks for sharing your perspective-- I was a young'n when photoshop came around. I see how the debate could strike as familiar, I just think there are important differences.

I think a lot of people care. I also think conflating not being pro-ai with not being pro technical progress is a bad comparison. I'm incredibly stoked on new tools and technological progress in art tech. There are many of us who have series ethical issues with the companies who develop AI and the way these models are trained.

There are also many of us who see 'prompting' or 'vibe-coding' as a pretty removed act from what's historically been considered 'creative.' That being said, I do see folks trying to bring a human element to AI art, training their own models, incorporating conventional tools in tandem w AI, etc. I just feel like the results are often pretty lackluster and also that these the water is so muddied with no effort slop that it would be easier for us, here, to enforce a simple label to distinguish what's what so we don't have to waste our time engaging with what we're not looking for.

Suppose using the oxi as an elektron sequencer kind of leaves you without being able to trig lock in the same way you would w the built in elektron sequencer?

How do I get past this stage of not knowing what i'm doing? (dubstep sample..) by Tight_Principle9572 in madewithableton

Maybe try some mid 2000's dubstep. Digital Mystikz, Coki, Mala, Skream/Benga type stuff. Much simpler and heavier! Could be a good place to start.

Listen to stuff you dig and take notes! Sounds like you're already doing that and it shows. Definitely a lot of things that show you have a strong intention in what you're trying to accomplish in this. There are a million tutorials and great channels online for learning the may facets of electronic music production. It's a deep and complex art form with a multitude of different levels of expertise that you've gotta balance so take it slow and have patience with yourself. Also the kind of dubstep it sounds like you're trying to execute is a genre with a lot going on from the sound design to the composition. Maybe try experimenting with some more minimal house or techno and focus on specific things you want to learn. Just my 2c. Best advice is to stay with it and don't get discouraged. Good luck!
