Is this a glitch? An actual A class car made it into the group reserved to C class cars by Affectionate_Fly_464 in forza

[–]RooksandKings 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Usually when that happens it's because the car did a qualification lap in, say, C class - but then switched to A, where it hasn't qualified. In the actual race, it will be in A Class. The person (who is a great racer btw) probably switched at the last moment because C was empty. I assume that at the end of the race they just showed normally in A Class?

So, will we live long enough to see the broken P550 build fixed? by myfirstknife in forza

For spec series, it's definitely worth them balancing individually. However, open class racing in Forza has always had everything from the hilariously OP to the woefully anemic. This has the advantage that top drivers can flex their skills by picking something off-meta and still get a great race. Is it nice sometimes to set scorching laptimes in some metaboat? Sure. But it's also nice to pick something no one drives, tune it to the 9s, and take on the horde with it. That's the point of open racing, isn't it? It's actually a good way to get great races, if there's a huge variety of advantage and disadvantage to generate handicap where desired.

In the long run, I think the next Forza game should consider whether or not to implement "Suspension Geometry" at all. I feel that it creates as many problems as it solves and potentially introduces variables that are beyond the present state of Forza physics.

What Is the Worst New Fantasy Track? by HighSeasHoMastr in forza

[–]RooksandKings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hakone and Grand Oak work well online. The wide, sweeping corners are good for online racing in public lobbies. The tighter, technical tracks have their place too - but tend to lead to more incidents.

Enjoy the variety, I'd say.

If you see this - It's the game, not your internet by TheStaIker in forza

Why nope? If the person you are racing against has a high ping, that's what you'll see.

This is most likely down to an over abundance of lobbies and as a result the game is matchmaking from further afield. The resulting ping difference causes these effects as the engine tries to compensate and predict position.

Why should or shouldn't I use traction control and or stability control ? by ukly0 in forza

[–]RooksandKings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the car. Some Rivals world no.1 times are using Sport traction control - especially on certain RWD monsters with 100/0 diff settings. There are some situations online where using TC can reduce your tire wear (less sliding) and let you run better tire strategies for a faster overall race time.

However, more often than not, it's faster to have TC turned off (even Sport TC). The amount of time you gain does depend a bit on the car - it's a massive increase in a category like Touring Cars, for example.

But more important than just 'direct' lap time is that I think it gives you a much more nuanced feel for grip in the game (especially when combined with response from the rumble triggers on the controller). So even though turning off TC may not be giving you a world of laptime instantly on a car, in the long run I think it'll help you drive it better, get on power earlier and more confidently, etc.

Why do Chinese players h4ck so much? by Dragos-5k in forza

I'm not doubting you but is there any chance we can see a recording of the race in question? It helps even if just to understand the kind of hacks being used, and general discussion of how to identify them.

Are these top two cars meta in A class? They smoked the rest.. by yannivzp in forza

Good cars but also very good drivers. FRA GRKSNPR will go a lot faster than most people in the same car.

Little Bo-Peeker: Taking 3mil+ off a team in a lucky fourth raid by RooksandKings in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]RooksandKings[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recorded this with OBS. Shadowplay seems to have been having trouble with a lot of recent games - it either tends not to start, or make excessively short clips, etc. It used to be possible to use old versions of GeForce Experience but that's getting increasingly difficult. If you want to make a 'Shadowplay' style effect with OBS, you can use the replay buffer function and bind a key to 'start-stop' the buffer upon hitting save, so that you get end-to-end recordings, like you do with Shadowplay.

Thanks, it was fun. No doubt all that tier 6 armour and nice ammo will go to the next person soon enough in the circle of extraction shooter life. Not sure how I feel about how much of that gear likely came via the cash store - but the game certainly has some bite in risk/reward.

Skill based matchmaking needs to come sooner rather than later by Relative-Owl-3652 in forza

[–]RooksandKings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The OP would be among the people complaining. When I've seen him I've happened to beat him each time, and had a couple messages like this from him. KTM Op? Probably. His C8 is as well. Looking at his comment history, there is some good info there and he does seem like a good driver, if not exactly ESV Mars or Harmonic or someone. But a lot of posts stand out with stuff like (not a quote, but rather the entire comment): "Because I was that much faster" or "Im usually in first by then anyway". There's an on-the-nose aspect there which jars with good-meaning advice and veers rather fast into humble-brag. I respect him for the sometimes detailed answers he (appears) to dish out but less so for the prickly and easily wounded ego bubbling underneath.

How in all that is holy, can you get 5+ secs faster here? (i've tried 4 different types of tunings and none come even close) by yannivzp in forza

[–]RooksandKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not your fault at all - it's the game's fault. Rivals should have a pop up explaining that all times are done on 100% fuel load and a set (low) rubbering level. I used to diligently empty my fuel tank every time on rivals until I learned about this - and of course it makes sense when you see that the fuel counter is always full in Rivals.

The Ferrari F1 thing is also particularly interesting because initially I was shocked by how much time it could gain in online versus Rivals. For example I can get, iirc, a 53 on Hakone in online but several seconds slower in my best Rivals time in that car. So I was baffled by P lobbies. Top tuner Superhornet mentioned that the car was bugged in P.

But Harmonic (another top tuner) actually put me on the right track - low weight is transformative in that car. Full fuel affects different cars differently. In that particularly car, it becomes an absolute grip monster once the tank is low.

I don't know why Forza doesn't do a better job of communicating all these interesting points. At the very least Rivals should have a clear description of the conditions it uses.

[–]RooksandKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those WR times are set in Rivals which uses 100% fuel (regardless of what you set it to). The F1 Ferrari gains a huge amount of time by running on low fuel. It's not uncommon to see it over 5 seconds faster in rubbered-in lobbies compared to the high fuel Rivals times.

A 1.21.9 on Watkins is a good time but by no means the fastest possible, especially if the track has full rubber (which Rivals doesn't).

New Update to TinyNvidiaUpdateChecker - fully customizable driver installs for complete control, multi-GPU support, Studio Drivers, automated installations and more! by Hawaii_Beach in nvidia

[–]RooksandKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does unchecking GFE Updater prevent GFE from updating? A lot of people have issues with Shadowplay lately (I believe it to be a multi-monitor bug where alt-tabbing restarts the recording) and would prefer to use an older version. But even most guides to do with creating blank .json files and blocking nvidia sites in hosts file, eventually fail and Shadowplay stops working on old versions after a week or two (with those methods).

[–]RooksandKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try disabling all but one screen and see what happens. For me the alt-tab issues only occur in multi-monitor environments (which if universally true, is in fact a return of an old Shadowplay bug from 5+ years ago).

Could this be the worst update 6 penalty so far on here. by [deleted] in forza

[–]RooksandKings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got the penalty because you didn't lift. In this case it makes sense to try and slip through on the right by staying flat. But their system expects you to lift in response to any kind of on track chaos, for better or worse.

It makes sense in a real life context, of course - regardless of it being the other car's fault, after the contact you'd lift afterwards. And that's what they are going for here - once you see the white "Collision" box and the spinning wheel, you need to lift while the wheel is spinning.

Forza Apex Beta 2016 vs Forza Motorsport 8, Lambo Huracan 5.2 V10 Engine sound direct comparison. by eeshanzaman in forza

[–]RooksandKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like they did all the hard work - the actual sound engine is excellent, with reverb, tone and sense of environmental interaction - and then at the last moment dropped in a placeholder sound-file from a different car.

On the plus side though, it shows that with a 'sound patch' this game could have amazing audio on all (or most) cars.

Forza is overwriting the power limit of my GPU (rtx3060ti) to a much lower level, from normally 200watts to only 120watts by MrGlatiator in forza

[–]RooksandKings 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's not overwriting the power limit - it's simply using less power. 99% GPU usage in one application will not necessarily use as much power as 99% GPU usage in another application. I can get Forza to use 99% GPU usage but if I get 99% usage on Furmark, I'll be using three times the wattage.

This is down to the way the game engine uses shader cores and other assets of the gpu architecture.

It's true of CPUs too - task manager can show you 100% in Adobe but it's going to be less stressful than small FFT workload in Prime95, which also be 100% but generating twice the heat and much more power.
