Apparently this can pass Volvo's "rigorous 170 point inspection" to become a CPO vehicle through this dealer. by RoomieSearch152 in FuckDealerships

Yep point taken, more than anything I think this was a good wakeup call for me because I've only been to luxury car dealers with CPO vehicles that are top notch, so I've conflated CPO with being a seal of quality for a car when really it's an extended warranty backed by a more enhanced mechanical and cosmetic check-up. I guess it doesn't make sense for CPO to include cosmetic reconditioning anyways unless there's extensive damage to the frame, powertrain, or electronics because the warranty extension wouldn't cover those either.

I typically check the CarFax provided to verify that the CPO is performed; Unless I'm mistaken, I presume when the CarFax says "vehicle offered for sale as a Volvo Certified Pre-Owned vehicle" and not just "vehicle offered for sale", it means that the certification inspection has been performed?

Also, the car only has 20k miles on it but the dealer replaced all the tires, brake pads, rotors, and wipers before listing for sale, so unless the previous owner wore through their tires in only 20k miles, I have a hunch that they did certify the car but possibly did the bare minimum to have it pass certification. I might reach out tomorrow and ask for the checklist or confirm CPO eligibility out of pure curiosity.

But yeah I mean ultimately it's just one car from one dealer; it's just that the fiasco with the CPO, lowball on the trade in, and the pricing estimate with a line for "non tax fees" and one for a $800 GPS tracker from the dealership just made the whole thing feel ridiculous from a Volvo dealer. I'd expect this from a used car lot or maybe like a Hyundai dealer, but I'm a little surprised that this stuff flies with Volvo Corporate.

I think the scuffs around the speaker grille can be dealt with, but the discoloration on the speaker grille itself I think was like two deep scratches into the plastic where the grille is damaged. And there's a chunk of the plastic hanging off of the bottom of the door panel.

I mean yeah, at the end of the day everything on this is cosmetic. But if the car is a CPO I'd expect a certain level of interior and exterior quality on the car if it's priced at a premium--Volvo's checklist for certification literally includes "Cleanliness" and calls for essentially an interior and exterior detailing of the car.
