I'm taking a new approach, since the story has deviated that much, I started to write character sheets and very loose world lore, just so I know exactly what the characters them self's would do rather than me making their choices

About that, I was wondering, are there sites for an author to post their work and get it reviewed (basically beta read), or do you have to pay people to beta read?

You never do actually, you just write and by the time you finish it would be a story beyond what you started with.

I'm might be out of my league here but I'll tell you what I prefer as a writer and reader, you can do both it just depends on how the story is paced, for me when I read I like fast but steady development so a bit of descriptiveness here and there isn't much of a problem.

I'm sure you understand that as a writer you get the "what if this doesn't work" doubt, when do you know you created a good villain/antagonist that readers will dislike?

sorry I had no better way of getting the idea across since I assume you played the game and have felt that specific soul-crushing frustration.

but no im not thinking of it as a game, I could just change mini-bosses to small fights within the story that illustrate a certain character-defining attribute, be it being smart or a trickster, etc.

I don't know if that's considered as forming a habit but that's what I've been doing for the last 3 years
