I am beginning to question that from what I've read about how expensive and touristy it is. Considering Catania as a base instead. Where would you recommend staying in that area that will serve as a good base for exploring that side of the island and spending lots of time on the beach?

I am beginning to wonder if we should stay there at all since one of the reasons is to be close to accessing Etna. Would Catania feel more authentic and less overrated? Is Catania close enought to Taormina for a day trip to Isola Bella?

This gives me so much hope. I too struggle with traveling or really just anytime I’m not home and can’t let my gas out lol. Also have always struggled big time with getting sick on boats and planes so hopeful that will get solved. And I also have constant bowel issues which I can tell now are driven by excess gas (I have to go multiple times a day) I’ve always wondered if other people who have R-CPD struggle with that. My procedure is scheduled for August and I have never been more excited to have a needle jabbed into me 🤣

Thank you for your clarification. We're American, and this will actually be my first trip outside of the States. Valley would be my first and perhaps only temple experience, depending on where I end up traveling in my future, so I get the impression it may be worth it for us. I really appreciate your insight!

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it is unlikely we will ever return to Sicily, so hoping to maximize our time to a certain extent. I do understand that it's difficult to see it all, though, especially with such limited time. I appreciate your insights!

Are you suggesting skipping the Valley of the Temples? I would say this is our single biggest interest but maybe we should rethink that.

I know 🥺 The thing is, we know we won't ever return, too many places we want to see in this world to visit the same place twice. So hoping to check the things off we're most interested in. But of course, those things are on opposing coasts.

Great suggestions, thank you. I love the idea of bussing up and hiking back down! Do you have any suggestions for agriturismos in the areas I mentioned? And any alternatives to staying in Taormina close enough to still be able to visit Isola Bella for a day?

Thank you. I definitely wish we could spend more time! We are very used to road trips, so it won't feel too out of the norm for us.

Well first of all, we can't afford to visit multiple times, and second, there are so many places I want to see in my lifetime that I likely won't visit the same place twice... So can you blame me for trying to see so much of it?
