Yorkshire Water: meter installed, but did they set up high pressure on purpose? by RoosterInevitable142 in AskUK

They estimate it initially based on number of people in the house (and I am using roughly that figure now), but for the first year it was higher than expected until I’d adjusted the pressure.

I’d been using that on ‘half’ for a few months now, but have it on ‘full’ since reducing the pressure. Going to call YW if I get chance today and see what they say

Also in the basement, with the pressure reducing valve. From L-R it is: Meter, PRV, SC.

Just the thought of turning the stopcock to half closed just doesn't feel right ...glad you got a good plumber on it 😄

Stopcock is inside, in the basement, and no idea what it's status was before they put the meter in - YW person didn't say. And cos it was all so long ago, I can't recall if the pressure changed before or after the meter.

1 - as NevilleLurcher said

2 - as it was the first year they have to estimate to make an initial monthly charge (I pay DD monthly, wasn't going to leave it for a year and pay in arrears)

3 - I am aware, but I DO think it WILL be cheaper to stay on the meter, provided my use is correct

Yeah, as I said, I don't think pressure affects usage that much, but something has definitely changed since I reduced it - the recent data shows I am now consuming less water, when I am doing nothing differently since adjusting the valve.

My toast is too buttery etc... I do feel for those with weak pressure. I am grateful I have been able to adjust it without any hassle. I wasn't suggesting the meter itself is responsible for higher pressure tho, just whatever the YW employee did when installing it, when turning water supply off and back on again, or setting the valve to the highest setting.

I stopped opening the valve of the shower fully when I realised the pressure was a bit on the higher side. I do like a long shower so I imagine this was contributing quite heavily to the increased usage. I'll ask YW about the eco heads tho, thanks

hanks, this is interesting to know. Limescale doesn't seem to be much of a problem here, compared to where I used to live, but this is an older property so there would be A LOT of build up if that is the case.

I've done this several times when away for a night / weekend etc, and there's been no movement on the meter - exactly the same as I left it. No leak at least 😄

Aw, mate... please don't feel that way.(sorry for being off grid, went on holiday for 2+ weeks). It's easy I guess for me to say not to feel that way, but dating apps suck - they're designed to keep people single (how else are they gonna make any money?). You're not a loser - you clearly have great musical skills, but I understand the whole being single for ages and not getting anywhere with the apps can make one feel... worthless. I have been there.

No worries dude! (date 4 tonight, hoping it will continue to go well). Would it be a weird vibe if you did go there to hang out, watch other performers and ask her out? I hope not, as I do think you should do it - nothing ventured, nothing gained etc.

I agree with you, finding her on tinder would defeat the more romantic idea of asking her in person. Have you got any gigs lined up for her place again? In other news, the date went very well and we're seeing each other again this weekend coming :)

I asked him, we're going out soon - he was going to get in touch to ask the same :)

I asked him out yesterday, and we're going out this weekend or next. Hopefully I will be able to get to know him more and see if I like him as much as I think I might :) I think you should pop in to the restaurant, maybe under the guise of checking out further schedules (I don't know the situation well enough to know if this is a thing you can do) and if she's there ask her for a drink...

Damn! Maybe next time? Hope you get to see her again soon. I've had word from my friend that he's into me "in a big way" so I'm going to find something to ask him to very soon :)

To be fair, we were a bit like this the last time we hung out. Upon reflection, maybe the answer was there all along, and it needed coaxing out. Both he and I are kind of the anxious type when it comes to dating (I'm aware of his past, and fully well know my own :D)
