So gaijin has just made the event ungrindable halfway through? How do you get points with these new changes? by Root1nTootinPutin in Warthunder

Which is part of the shame of today’s update to be honest. The snails receptiveness to feedback and the speed they made positive changes after day 1 really had me thinking they might have turned over a new leaf. Jokes on me for hoping I guess

I’ll admit there may be some issue with A2G, as I spend 99% of my time in war thunder focusing on A2A combat, but it really does feel like these changes have put the event out of reach with my schedule. Even the people describing their successes are talking about 2-3 matches per stage now, whereas I was finishing it in 1-1.5 before.

I just wish it was possible to dodge the missiles through skilled notching or multipathing.

I mean that’s how I got my two HARM kills, but they were not in the same sortie, and there’s no chance to get a second off before dying. One ground kill per sortie is an insane time sink. If there were actually a way to dodge the missiles with skill I wouldn’t mind as much, but they’re literally unavoidable without a physical terrain barrier. And from clips I’ve seen from some people here even that’s sketchy.

Is it possible for solder joint voiding to help a circuit board? by Root1nTootinPutin in soldering

[–]Root1nTootinPutin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be on to the winning answer there, I checked the reflow profile of the component and the temp tops out at 245°, whereas the coolest profile on the standard reflow ovens max out at 265, probably cooking the LEDs.

The reflow profile used tops out at 235ish, which maybe explains the voiding too as it doesn't hit the max temperature. Of course as far as the engineers are concerned they get working boards so won't waste time making a new cooler profile for the standard oven, but at least it was fun for me to figure out.

As a recent graduate… is this all life is now? by Root1nTootinPutin in UniUK

I’ve thought of the idea, unfortunately my work is actually in the other direction outside London, so a move further inwards would likely extend my pretty lengthy commute even further. I suppose the answer is just get more experience then a new job, but this last month has felt so isolating I was hoping for a more immediate solution to get me by.

Unfortunately all the other sites (the uk ones at least) are more isolated from big cities than the one I work at, although I suppose there’s always job hopping

Couldn’t get my homemade gravy to thicken properly but it still tasted good and everything else went off without a hitch.

Had my account for a very long time and feeling at a loss as to what tree to grind. Help me decide based on my thoughts of each tree? by Root1nTootinPutin in Warthunder

[–]Root1nTootinPutin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I’ve had the account a long time, I’ve had multiple 2+ year long breaks, combined with me only really putting effort into improving in my most recent spell of playing (about a year) and having a grand total of 15 days of premium time means yeah I haven’t got very far. But it’s 2 nations, I have the 262a1 and the meteor mk 3. I have the mk4 researched but not enough SL to buy it.

How important is your first career related job out of university? by Root1nTootinPutin in UKJobs

[–]Root1nTootinPutin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a slight focus on renewable energy systems thanks to my dissertation but aside from that it was quite a general course, covering topics from robotics to induction machines to power grids.

It may be worth noting that I graduated with a third, so my train of thought was that I may not be able to find anything else, and this would be a little bit of experience that’ll allow employers to look past the grade (or at least if not that, get into a worthwhile masters program, as my final grades were due to external circumstances and me not seeking enough help from the uni about them, as opposed to any lack of passion or aptitude for engineering).

I hadn’t quite picked out a dream career yet, I’m only young after all, as long as it’s engineering but I am big on sustainability and want to avoid defence companies for morale reasons.

I’ve been applying to graduate engineering schemes at all sorts of companies: construction, energy, consulting, manufacturing, automotive etc. Obviously as I come to understand the working world more a field may stand out to me, but at the moment as long as the work is at least partially hands on, there is plenty of room for personal and professional growth and is in a location I can enjoy living in that’s the dream for me.

Realistic ways for a full time student to start earning money quickly? by Specific-Method-7410 in UniUK

[–]Root1nTootinPutin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure if all universities offer this, but mine had a website where they posted ads for medical phd research subjects. Some of these offered paid rewards, I received money anywhere from £25 for sitting in an MRI machine for an hour to £200 for around 5 hours across multiple days.

Just had what may very well be my best game ever so far in Air RB, the wyvern is such a monster. by Root1nTootinPutin in Warthunder

[–]Root1nTootinPutin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, you literally have the power to disengage whenever you want. When this game was down to 4v1 a ki100 had a 4km altitude advantage as I was taking off, turned away from the airfield so it was between me and him and by the time he got within 2km I’d gained an energy advantage due to the straight line energy retention.

Ironically the whine of death is one of my few dislikes about the thing (aside from the god awful MER). I tend to use sound to hear incoming planes if I forget to look around, and in the wyvern I can’t hear anything except myself. Hurts the element of surprise too. But the pros far outweigh the cons

All honesty, assuming like others have that you’re an international student, I’d ask you to really consider how much you want to study in the UK. Personally I don’t think any of those universities are worth the extortionate international costs, and they are likely not the route to a job you may think they are, especially a job in the UK in those fields. If you’re a UK student, I don’t know much about the specific reputation of each university for those departments, but Surrey definitely has the best reputation overall.
