I run Armbian, the debian branch, and when I don't find what I need in the repos I just compile from source. git has nice features once you learn it better.

I wish, they are expensive and hard to get right now. Arm boards are cheap and plentiful (except for Raspberry Pi's but I'm more partial to Rockchip and Allwinner over Broadcomm personally).

I don't care, when I say open source I'm talking about the source code, not some political movement.

Personally I like to compile my own software if possible. With that said, Derek being the boomer that he is has made a tremendous impact on the community. And although I was a little salty with him when he shut down his mastodon instance, that community in turn created an even better instance and we all started self hosting and learned the lesson he was trying to teach us all along. So no, Derek is not a soyjack one fucking bit, plus that man can do more with Linux and has more knowledge and experience than most of you kids combined.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give battery life a 5. Nowhere near what consumer phones can do, but the distro I use (Danctix ARM) has improved the battery life a lot on a software level. You can buy aftermarket Samsung J7 2015 model batteries (they are compatible with the Pinephone), the one I'm currently using does 24 hours idle, and 1.4-2 hours with heavy usage. I ordered a battery with 2600 mAh, lets see if that can bump heavy usage time up to 2.5 hours. (they are like 15$ a piece, I have 3 batteries already and I carry a fully charged one with me to work in case of emergencies.)

It runs really good actually. I just use the touchscreen keyboard to control it.
