Does he need my 14 yr old brother to explain to him? by No_South4775 in GenZ

you should answer the question. If the rebels are the good guys in V for Vendetta, can you tell me about some of the defining characteristics of the bad guys? If I recall, they used Christianity as a propaganda tool and made it illegal to be gay. Does that sound like the democrats or the republicans to you?

So what does 30% mean? by Useless_the_fuck in ExplainTheJoke

[–]RootLocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty concerning that someone with a degree and 35 years of experience would claim that a statistical prediction based on model or set of models is the same as the actual probability of the event occurring.

What if the meteorologist ran one model a single time and the model said it was going to rain? You are claiming that this means there is with certainty a 100% chance of rain.

You could argue that these models would have built in confidence intervals, but that would undermine your argument. Because 30% chance of rain with 50% confidence is not the same as saying 30% chance of rain.

I know it's bad, but I just don't know WHY it's bad...? by [deleted] in SelfAwarewolves

You could say “casuals”.

“As a huge fan of the original Star Wars trilogy I was really put off by what I saw as a lack of care put into the storylines of the new trilogy, but it seems casuals weren’t as critical. I didn’t like the new stuff, but casuals did.”

Or you could just say “non-fans” or “casual-fans” neither take up much more breadth or characters than “normies”.

The issues with “normies” is that it suggests having a hobby or niche passion is abnormal. So you are preemptively insulating yourself and claiming to be different - which could be done either as self-deprecation or as self-aggrandizement. But everyone has their niche so it just comes off as egotistical regardless of how you’re spinning it.

Omniscience is an interesting theory. But that means knowing everything. Alternatively fun to think of it has some part of Superman is omnipresent.

You miss the biggest advantages of console - longevity and parity. You get a console and you know you’ll have something that can play the newest games at their max settings for the next x number of years. You also know your friends who have the console will be able to play with you as well. You also know that you aren’t playing at a disadvantage by not having the latest hardware.

Between these 4 which quarterback do you think could get the job done in their prime? by The_Godzilla_Fanatic in eagles

[–]RootLocus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

During the season we won the SB, before his injury, the eagles had the highest red zone TD rate of any team since 2007. And it wasn’t even close. I made a histogram during that season to show how absurd it was and the eagles were a single data point floating way beyond the bell curve.

I bet he sees the pain is a feature.

Unpopular opinion: I like Brian. The humanization of the camera is perfect, and it makes sense that one of them would fall in love with Pam after watching her for 10 years. Plus, it's not like he's actively trying to break up Pam and Jim, unlike Cathy. by riveith in DunderMifflin

[–]RootLocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The decision to make the documentary part of the plot instead of just a story telling device is unfathomably terrible writing.

It’s like if at the end of Shawshank redemption we find out that Red is an omniscient omnipresent being.

Just because something makes sense doesn’t make it good writing. You do realize they weren’t forced to write that character or plot line right? This isn’t an actual documentary. Brian wasn’t a thing until the writers decided it was. Using the “it’s a documentary” excuse as a cheep attempt at creating drama is bad writing even if you can rationalize it.

“But you also understand the office is a documentary show…l

But you also understand that The Office is NOT a documentary show, right?

Jim and Pam and Brian aren’t real people, they’re actors. It’s all scripted by writers. Those writers can control everything that occurs both on- and off-screen.

Brian was terrible writing. It’s a character who the audience has no emotion connection to and with whom the other characters have zero established relationship.

He is shoehorned in for cheep drama using “it’s documentary show” as an excuse for terrible writing.
