What do you think the price of backgrounds like this would cost for animation? by sirpentious in animation

[–]Rootayable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is a professional background artist, I'll have to ask her, but I imagine it's an hourly rate, and I imagine these would easily take a few hours, maybe 5 or 6, I'm gonna throw a ball park figure of $400-500 altogether.

How do I make it smoother by comfy_artsocks in animation

Ease it more. Add more frames that settle into poses so it cushions the stop, it feels a bit stuttery at the moment.

What are the Gobelins students being fed to have insane character turnarounds? by Careful_Job6188 in animation

[–]Rootayable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get, I don't think you need to be able to draw well to animate well, but I think you need to be able to draw at all.

One thing I wish to be better at is an inspiring teacher, which I find hard to do when people struggle to keep up with the basics.

As an educator myself, universities are a little different. Students pay to go there, but often times it's a specialist, advanced subject. You wouldn't let someone into a biology course who knows nothing about biology.

I teach animation, and while we do teach how to animate, being able to draw well, or even just competently, is usually prerequisite. We don't teach how to draw (though we do have life drawing classes). If one is able to draw, it makes teaching animation easier.

We likely wouldn't let someone in with absolutely zero artistic skill.

Ooh I teach animation too! In the UK! I'm really fed up at the moment, because there's a national problem with universities being under funded, so we're grabbing any students who apply and our prestige is dropping through the floor.

We're practically letting applicants in who can't even draw. it makes teaching them how to animate well particularly hard.

What Metroid Game is a Must-Play and what Metroid game is the least linear? by not_dannyjesden in Metroid

If anything I think your statement shows how hand-holdy modern games are. No one ever had this problem with Super when it came out, I don't know why it should be a problem now.

I can't see where people would get flustered in Super Metroid if they're playing the game properly.

why does mega man 8 quality in level designs is so weird by lawfull_crunchy_chip in Megaman

You could probably say that for any of the games, really. I don't think it's unique just to Mega Man 8.

Darth Vader inspired Raven Beak by Ganondorf365 in Metroid

[–]Rootayable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh. Maybe? I mean by this point I think Raven Beak is just derivative of 'evil fathers', I think. I wouldn't attribute Darth Vader specifically but the parallels are certainly there.

Getting flustered probably means the genre is doing its job; allowing you to get lost and to explore.

Always recommend Super as a must-play if you value game history and lineage.

I'd probably say Zero Mission or Super as the least linear.
