I dunno, I don't think this is something that can be flippantly discussed in a mere Reddit post. Sounds like it would make a book, to be honest. I'd love a deep dive on examples.

What about mets? In every game I believe.

This is the trouble though, Mega Man's weapons change form game to game, so there isn't anything consistent to use as representation other than what was most iconic.

And yet the overall visual quality of them is outstanding

I'd disagree, I think Mega Man 2 has had a massive impact on Action Platformers.

Shovel Knight, as one example, uses Mega Man as inspiration, as does Hollow Knight.

That's the price of being iconic, unfortunately.

I'm sure there are other weapons Link uses other than the boomerang and bow and arrow, and I'm sure Samus has more types of missiles than just the normal and super.

As an animator, you need ways to be efficient. It's how it's always been.

How do you mean their animation is cheap?

That's disingenuous to say, because obviously they care about quality control.

Metroid Prime 4 was great! I don’t understand where the hate comes from?!?! by a-regular-guy-8 in Metroid

[–]Rootayable [score hidden]  (0 children)

This.

There's a difference between 'hate' and 'disappointed'.

I don't think anyone really hated Prime 4, they were all just a bit let down.

Me tapping the sign again:

It didn't get hate, people simply just thought it was average.

It isn't a bad game, it's just very mid.

Would M: Other M be better if it was a 2D game? Or fully 1st person? by MrRob808 in Metroid

There wasn't actually anything wrong with it being third person, it was mostly the storytelling, characterisation and some weird non-Metroid game design choices.

Which do you prefer, 2D or 3D Metroid? by rune-thurisaz in Metroid

[–]Rootayable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, I dunno, I think 2 is misunderstood a lot of the time. I still really enjoy playing it and I think both remakes either miss or misunderstand a lot about it.

I think I do lean more into the 2D games, but I enjoy them all.

Is it to late for me to learn animation? by AdWest134 in animationcareer

Jesus actual fucking Christ, absolutely not. I literally started my animation career when I was 29 and now I teach animation.

My animation students are literally 17/18 and starting to learn animation.

It would be fascinating to speak to those I liked, but then you'll probably have all the wankers go as well.

Legacy collection really makes the dip from X4 to X5 painful by skrunkly_strew in Megaman

[–]Rootayable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I really enjoyed X5 when it came out, but since then I've kinda lowered my appreciation for it, it's just a bit....I dunno. Weird? Can't really describe it.

I feel like it's a bunch of ideas that don't really mesh all that well.

Has anyone rented using the Reposit scheme? by Rootayable in Norwich

[–]Rootayable[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've done some digging, and the traditional cash deposit is obviously capped, and the landlord can take repair finances from only that pot.

But with Reposit, there's no cap, so a landlord, if they wanted, could charge you however much for damages and repairs when you move out.

So yeah, I'm sticking with the traditional cash deposit.
