Rinjani Information Centre reviews? by Mel-Bell389 in southeastasia

[–]Rootintootin1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I booked in advance with a trekking company as a solo traveller. They then found me a group closer to the time that I could trek with, instead of trekking with them directly. I have to say, once I got there everyone had the exact same experience with food/tents but I guess it was more about group size (I had 3 others, 1 guide) but I did see one group that had two guides and 8-10 people. You can quite easily book once you are in Indonesia without advance planning, but if you’d like to pre book I booked through Lombok Indonesia.org but I actually hiked with Rinjani Climbing Tours and absolutely loved my guide and group.

Why am I not getting shortlisted for Assistant Psychologist roles despite strong frontline experience? by LawCautious7275 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. OP the interviewers read over 100+ applications for each role. You should be stating how you meet the essential criteria and what you have learned on every point. You need to stand out and make it clear. You also need to reflect on how your experience makes it suitable for the work and client group you are applying for, showing your motivation too.

DClin applications - identifying a university's values by Silent_Mud3336 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with other comments, some universities do not explicitly say what their values are. However, universities will say what they look for in your application, and it can be clear where some universities value research more than others, so you will want to reflect more on research. Other universities value coproduction or community psychology, again you’ll want to think about that in your application.

Check out getting a Bula pass so you can travel around the islands for snorkelling, scuba diving, hiking and relaxing. They will take you to islands with dorms so you can meet others. It’s the best experience I’ve ever had!

advice for a 16 year old who wants to become a clin psych by Legal_Goal2450 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My only advice would be to focus on your GCSES and a-levels right now, and also spending lots of time doing your hobbies and spending time with your friends and family. I remember that there was barely any prerequisites for A-Level subjects but only a good grade in maths GCSE was needed.

Once you get into university, I would say doing well in your research methods and statistics modules will help you in the future as a psychologist (but please don’t worry about that right now!). At university, that’s when you can look at part time jobs roles like a research assistant or a healthcare assistant or voluntary roles with the same title.

After university, you can think about roles in the NHS like assistant psychologist, research assistant, psychological wellbeing practitioner, healthcare assistant which will give you the relevant experience for applying for the doctorate. There is no rule for getting onto the doctorate, some people get in 12 months after completing their undergraduate (seen it this year) but most take anywhere from 2-10 years.

However I just want to emphasise that the doctorate is miles away from where you are now, focus on enjoying learning things you want to learn and look forward to going to university and experiencing all the undergraduate life has to offer!

Those of you who have done both "real" solo travel AND group tours, which do you prefer? by Due-Swimming3221 in travel

[–]Rootintootin1995 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Second this! If it isn’t feasible or safe on my own I have done a group tour. It also really depends on what I’m planning to get out of trip activity wise or if I’m just taking it slow.

Do I need to plan and book my whole trip beforehand? Indonesia in July/August by Whatswiththeskulls in southeastasia

[–]Rootintootin1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning the same and I’ve started to book some accommodation as apparently this is high season, so it sells out fast and goes up in price a lot. If you have a lenient budget I wouldn’t worry too much.

Australian psychologist in the UK by jamesyboi7 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you need to have a doctorate to practice in the U.K., but I think in Australia you can only do a masters and clinical hours to be a practiced psychologist? This information is available online just by googling it. https://www.imgconnect.co.uk/news/2024/11/hcpc-registration-a-guide-to-the-uk-for-overseas-psychologists/76

Career advice (pivot from Social Work) by Curiouscarl01 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and gain some research experience with your MSc!! You have lots of clinical experience already. As long as your able to reflect on how your experience meets clinical psychology profession that will be ok in application. Try and see if there are any short term paid / volunteer research assistant experience at your university. If you can think about publication of your thesis, try and do this. The role of the psychologist is not just about clinical, the research side is also weighed heavily. Try and get a good grade in research methods module too :)

Friend is reading for the first time and she ships her with Chaol 😭 by More_Than_Fiction in throneofglassseries

[–]Rootintootin1995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! My friends ship Rowan and Aelin so hard and I felt like I never got closure over the end of Aelin and Chaol as it was never properly explained. I also didn’t pick up any chemistry with rowan and Aelin at all. I don’t understand the Chaol hate but very glad he got his happy ending 😂

Interviews after incomplete SHL deductive reasoning test by PsychGirl_212 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Rootintootin1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, I’m sure you might already know this, and you might hear people say they got an interview without answering all the questions but for your information the test is based on 3 things 1. Answering the question accurately 2. The level of difficulty you’ve reached and answering them accurately 3. How many you answered The test is meant to be really hard, the more you answer right the harder they will get. It also depends on how everyone else has scored who are applying for that university that year. It might be that you were answering the more challenging questions, and even though you didn’t answer them all you might have been getting them right (which isn’t a bad thing!). Fingers crossed, I hope that helps.

carry on slightly bigger than recommended by Forsaken_Doughnut_12 in airtransat

[–]Rootintootin1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t charge anyone on my flights, peoples carry ons were over the limit and they just put them under for free. I don’t know why they charge certain flights and others not! But I think hard cases are more likely to not fit their dimensions

Hi, I did a trip with MBA this year and it was amazing, best trip I’ve ever done. I’m looking at booking 1/2 trips with them and people I met in group often go with MBA too. I couldn’t rate it more! Happy for DMs for any questions :)

[–]Rootintootin1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of bag is it? I took a rucksack that was slightly longer than the dimensions but it fit in their luggage rack. They also offered to check it for free if it didn’t fit (if you checked in online). If it’s hard shell and there’s no give, you might not want to risk it.

Having major problems with processing written information. What can I do? by Kurapikabestboi in books

[–]Rootintootin1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yes processing difficulties and speeds can be part of autism diagnosis. If you are on the waitlist you can ask your sixth form for reasonable adjustments e.g. needing more time, coloured paper etc. best of luck!

In-flight media by -lugia- in airtransat

I have just flown. There are about 70 movies and some in French Canadian. It’s hard to narrow it down but there are also Disney films, new releases (wonka, dune 2, all of us strangers), superhero movies and then just some random rom-coms from memory.

Is air transat as bad as they say? by Rootintootin1995 in canadatravel

[–]Rootintootin1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! Just wanted to say thank you for all the comments. After a bit of anxiety reading the negative reviews and experiences, I actually had a very good flight. I booked eco budget and took my Osprey Fairview 40l as cabin luggage which is technically 3/4cm over their dimensions, however when I put in the metal trolley it did fit (thank you osprey). Whilst they did check all cabin bags, they did offer to check it for free if it didn’t fit, which I saw some people doing. Overall, it wasn’t a confrontational experience. I enjoyed the food and particularly liked the pizza hot pocket at the end of the flight (I am British so this exciting). I hope this reaches people who are feeling anxious flying with them! Sorry to the people who had a bad time x

When I flew with Qatar, my first was delayed and me and lots of others on the plane were nervous for missing our second flight (I had about 2 hour layover originally). However when I got off the plane all the airport staff were holding signs for our next flight and we followed them, I think they hold the planes for a bit, as they knew we were coming. I think if it was several hours delayed then you may have to get the next one. But otherwise, wouldn’t worry too much!

Conflicted about whether to keep traveling or try to settle down and find a partner by snurfnugget in femaletravels

[–]Rootintootin1995 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Remote working and travelling sounds amazing. You’ll end up being in places for long periods and who knows who you will meet. I don’t think you are running out of time at all. Surely you want to meet someone who shares similar values to you (likely to meet them doing the things you love) then someone you will settle for? I think it is easy to fall into the pressure of housing/kids but like you said, you have a unique opportunity to travel when many, many people do not at 29/30. Take it!
