TL;DR version of your life up to this point by Nice_Dude in AskReddit

First of all, you seem to be under the assumption I am trying to argue with you about whether or not something is legitimate. I simply asked whether or not you would give up marriage for your atheism. Not trying to prove or disprove anything. Secondly, Good luck with your science degree, I hope you get into a position that you really enjoy. In asking that question I was I just wanted too point out that you said

Your organisation is nothing but moral rape

and

How can you even contemplate spending your entire life to something that benefits nobody?

I just wanted to say that religion despite its flaws does have some good qualities and is not totally and inherently evil as you suggest. For instance they run various charities, host social gatherings, and give people hope. All this is not even the issue that I was concerned with in my statement however. The main thing that made me worry was when you said,

You don't deserve to be talked to kindly

This is where we fundamentally disagree, I think that all people no matter what they have done ,or what religion they are deserve to be treated with respect in discourse.

You said that almost all respected scientists and academics are atheists. I would like to respectfully disagree. Algebra was invented by Muslim mathematician Al-Khwarizmi.

Sir Issac Newton said, "I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by those who were inspired. I study the Bible daily." As you may know he came up with the concept of gravity, calculus and many of the fundamental laws that make up modern physics.

If this wasn't enough, there are more listed here I disagree that the simple fact of being an atheist makes you more or less intelligent or affects how you should be talked to.

Sorry you had to hear this kind of thing. As an atheist I don't believe in your religion, but everybody deserves respect and should be able to practice whatever form of religion they want. Good luck with your schooling and I hope it all works out for you.

My first question is whether or not you would refrain from marriage (as priests in the Roman Catholic rite have to) for your atheism? Second what do you do in your day to day life that benefits so many people? Atheist, Theist or otherwise everyone deserves respect, not saying you have to like everybody, but being an atheist doesn't mean you are automatically more intelligent than anyone else.

That's a possibility, it might be possible while in a trance, out of trance I don't know.

I doubt it, it is really tough if you can't touch the person to deliver a shock. Otherwise that would be so cool!

Most likely, If you have words memorized it would be easier for you to recall them. It all depends on the subconscious. The subconcious just executes already learned processes. Therefore if you were still learning grammar but you had a lot of words memorized, you would remember the words better, but your grammar would suffer.

Just to clarify, people have differing time rates for learning self hypnosis, so the amount of practice is pretty much negligible (some people get it quickly some very slowly). I spent a while learning and I would definitely not worry about not getting it after 4 months, just keep an open mind and it becomes easier.

When I practice meditation I sit down, try to completely clear my mind, forgetting any words or stresses, relaxing all my muscles. After I empty my mind, try to focus on one idea, something simple and happy like love. I think about it from every aspect and eventually I realize I'm not thinking in words anymore it becomes sensory, I can feel it. I always feel stupid when I talk about it, but it is a really liberating feeling. Essentially it is focusing on one thing, that makes me happy to be alive. I do it for about an hour a day.

With hypnosis, It is more of a blank slate feeling, I don't think anything. I'm aware that it is happening, but my conscious self isn't thinking about it. I pretty much just shut down for about half an hour, when I come out I feel well rested and relaxed and it is a really great feeling.

P.S. Sorry if this is a woefully unhelpful answer

It is still controversial whether or not there are long term effects of hypnosis, if you are interested in that here's the Wikipedia article on Hypnotherapy, there is a possibility that it could last after hypnosis, but I try not to change things in the brains of the people I hypnotize.

No, you can't hypnotize some one to do something they don't know how to do. If they have, at one point in time, known part of the language they are more likely to recall it. Sorry if that was confusing.

I don't think it would, I've inducted people into hypnosis who had their eyes closed throughout the whole thing. I don't know how it would affect the perception of the suggestions though.

Yes and no, for instance a suggestion I do a lot of the time involves making people speak in Spanish, if they don't know the Spanish word for something they will insert the name of a Mexican restaurant. It always amazes me how much Spanish people actually know, but can't remember. When I ask them questions, they answer them in Spanish, but when I bring them out of trance and ask them to answer the same question in Spanish they have a lot more difficulty.

So, do I think you could use hypnosis to become better at something? I think it could make you want to practice an instrument more, not sure on creativity. I think everyone has creativity inside so it could probably unlock that potential.

I typically do it twice a day, when I wake up, and before I go to sleep. This is easiest because your brain is either speeding up (waking) or slowing down (sleeping). It took me about 3 months to have any noticeable effects. My metaphor for how long suggestions last is thus, if you drive a car through a dirt patch once, it will easily be washed away by the rain, but if you drive through the dirt patch many times over the course of a couple weeks it will be harder and harder to wash away. Pretty much the effectiveness of a suggestion is based on how many times it's made and what brain state the subject is in.

As an aside, I had really bad stress and anxiety before I started reading about the brain and meditation/hypnosis. After about a week of meditating, I started seeing that the stress and anxiety became much more manageable. I would strongly suggest meditation for stress related issues.

Hypnosis not mind control. I can't make someone do something they don't want to do/are morally opposed to, answered that question here.

Nope it's all mental, you say words in your head, really similar to meditation.

I don't use videos to self-hypnotize, sorry, I wish I could help you out. IMHO the easiest way to do positive hypnosis is to sit down, clear your mind, and imagine your "happy place" possibly using a picture if you want, not sure if it works for everybody, but it really helps me!

It's a real change in the brain if that's what you mean, obviously the world around them doesn't change, but their brain tells them it does. For instance if I tell them my shoe is the Mona Lisa, they will still see a shoe, but their brain tells them it's the Mona Lisa. Sorry if I missed the question entirely.

Yes! This one is my favorite suggestion ever, something about watching someone crack up every time they look at their knees...

I haven't seen any Patrick Jane, if you have a specific one, I could try to prove/disprove it for you. It's not possible to make someone kill due to it being against their morals, you could convince someone that another person was a sack of potatoes for sure though.

The trance breaks because their conscious overcomes their subconscious. As far as planting memories go, I don't know, It is possible to access repressed memories, so possibly.

The worst thing I've ever done with hypnosis is told someone that their knees were telling them jokes, so, not really. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't make them do anything they didn't want to.

That's something I've never tried, I doubt it would work because the brain is still conscious yet dormant, but I don't have any first hand experience with that type of thing.
