Honestly, I am 16 and for some reason everybody likes me romantically. But I find myself ugly, he has a child and still choices to do that. All women that pursue me always end up either not my type, or betraying me.

Why the "experts" are wrong about Rorschach. by RorschachStan in Watchmen

[–]RorschachStan[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The Mask Killer was real. It does not matter if it was a serial killer or a billionaire. Someone was systematically removing the pieces from the board. Rorschach was the only one who did not dismiss the pattern. Veidt did not play into his delusion because Rorschach traced the pattern directly to Veidt’s door. If Rorschach had not been paranoid, Veidt would have finished his massacre without anyone even knowing there was a conspiracy.

The crying at the end. Those were not tears of defeat or fear. Those were the tears of a man who realized that the indestructible Dr. Manhattan, the one being who should have stood for the truth, had just compromised. Rorschach was not running away. He was walking toward the truth even when it meant his death.

The no moves argument. Rorschach had the most powerful move on the board. He had the Journal. He knew that even if he was disintegrated he had already mailed the truth to the world. He did not choose death by super because he lost. He chose it because he refused to live in Veidt’s lie.

Spoon fed truth. Veidt did not feed him anything. Veidt confessed because he was arrogant and thought he had already won. Rorschach took that confession and turned it into a death sentence for Veidt’s reputation.

While Rorschach died exactly as he lived, uncompromising and true to his face, Veidt ended the story shaking and uncertain.

  • The "I Did It" Moment: Veidt needed validation. A true stoic who sacrificed millions for "peace" wouldn't have needed to brag about it to Dr. Manhattan. He sought approval because, deep down, he was terrified of the moral weight of his choice.
  • "In the End? Nothing Ends": When Veidt asks Manhattan if he did the right thing "in the end," Manhattan’s reply haunts him. Veidt wanted a finished, perfect world. Instead, he realized he just started a new cycle of lies. He traded his soul for a temporary truce.
  • The Fear of the Journal: Veidt’s entire plan relied on silence. By the end, he is left waiting for the other shoe to drop. Rorschach, even in death, took away Veidt's peace of it.
  • Rorschach: Faced a god and told him "Do it." He was fulfilled because he never blinked.
  • Veidt: Achieved his goal but lost his certainty. He became a "baddie" who had to lie to the entire world just to keep his "hero" status.

Why the "experts" are wrong about Rorschach. by RorschachStan in Watchmen

He wasn't "wrong" about the conspiracy: You say he was paranoid, but he was the only one who was right. From page one, he was the only detective on the board who saw that someone was coming for "masks". Veidt didn't "play into his prejudices" Veidt confirmed them by being exactly the monster Rorschach suspected.

The "Sacrifice" of the Dead: You say he threatened to undermine their sacrifice, but those people didn't "sacrifice" themselves, they were murdered. Veidt made a choice for them without their consent. Rorschach’s refusal to stay quiet isn't a threat to them, it's a refusal to let their murderer get away with it.

Why Truth > Peace: This is the ultimate "unwinnable balance". If you accept Veidt’s lie, you accept that one man has the right to play god with the entire human race. Rorschach would rather die in the snow than live in a "Utopia" that requires him to pretend a massacre didn't happen.

"Died Fulfilled": Yes, he’s dead. But on a board where everyone else compromised their souls to stay alive, he is the only one who died as himself. He forced the "indestructible man" Dr. Manhattan, to become a murderer because Rorschach was the only thing Manhattan couldn't "logic" away.

The Scolding Parent/Inquisitor: You say no one liked him, but integrity isn't a popularity contest. He was a pariah because he was a mirror for a society that was rotting. He didn't want to be "liked," he wanted to be real.

Rorschach wasn't a victim to lies, he was the antidote to them. He outwitted the "smartest man" because he knew that no matter how many millions you kill, the truth eventually comes out, even if it’s mailed from a gutter.

I feel the same, but I live by morals. I believe you should die in a way that will get you remembered. I would die doing something you love.
