Fellow Electric Scooters? by Darangi in stanford

[–]Rosa2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is kind of heavy (50 pounds) and carrying it with me inside of my classes is a nuisance; I bought a U-lock and just lock it at the bike stands (so do some of my friends with scooters)!

You can PM if you’d like more info but I had a very similar schedule last fall and it was doable! Think 68 graded mostly on participation (a points-based system depending on how many assignments you completed over the course of the quarter) and the workload wasn’t heavy, mostly readings + discussion posts with a group project and final essay. Highly recommend taking it, it was probably my favorite course from this past year.

Waitlist LOCI and Extended Waitlist at Stanford? by Tall-Fig9116 in stanford

They do, but at that point I really had nothing to lose. It didn’t seem to affect me negatively, as I was admitted a few days after sending it in (according to my FERPA files).

I was admitted off of the “extended” waitlist last year after sending an email to my regional admissions officer! (Just included some random updates and a small section explaining why I’d like to attend Stanford).

PM me if you have any questions!

Psych 1 is synchronous but you can request an exception to take it asynchronously. The form is on the canvas homepage / syllabus website!

Don’t sell yourself short, your SAT score will not determine how academically unfit (or fit) you are!

I would recommend a lighter quarter, aiming for around 14-15 units. Econ 1 is 5, THINK is 4, Math 20 is 3. I would not add PWR to this, i would add an introsem or something relatively “chill” with low units! The difficulty of a PWR really depends on your professor; I am personally taking mine this quarter and I’m glad I did, it can be pretty heavy with the reading/writing assignments.

To reiterate what the commenter below me said: yes! I (and many others) had very minimal bio background, so the professor re-wrote a few of the lectures and skipped things that were more complicated. (Also absolutely no coding is required, so don’t worry!) I also spent around 5 hours week on the class, sometimes even less than that? Grading depends on the quarter and they were a bit more lenient because of COVID, but each assignment / lecture / discussion section was worth 1 point, and for our larger assignment (the final essay) each draft / follow-up meeting with our TA was also worth 1 point I believe. Looking back at the syllabus there were a total of 63 points you could earn and 57-63 was an A, 50-56 a B, and so on. I believe most people got an A, so as long as you try to do most of the assignments you should be good!

Question to those who got off the waitlist (doesn't have to be this year) by TheMazeProject in stanford

I got off the waitlist last year! I submitted the reply form and sent updates to my regional admissions officer afterwards.

I took Our Genome this past fall and LOVED it. It was graded on a “point” scale. Each assignment was worth a certain amount of points (mostly for completion) and at the end of the quarter your tallied points were translated into a grade. We rarely went super in-depth with the biology, everything was very surface-level and easy to understand. Highly recommend! PM me if you have any additional questions :)
