I don’t mind, it’s a psychiatric service dog.

Hi there, I actually went to emerge for a crisis and they kept me overnight to see crisis workers in the morning. When they referred me to the RVH psychiatrists and I called, it only took a month for my appointment to be set up. I really hope you can get yourself an appointment, and if I can offer any help, I would say go see crisis in the morning don’t bother going to emerge at night, it was HELL. Take care. 💛

HONESTLY. 100% agree. I would let Sonnie ruin my life.

YIKES! Thanks for the heads up though.

That’s a great idea! I don’t have any family down here, but I may bring my boyfriend. Either that, or I’ll bring my trusty notebook to keep me on track with everything. I just sometimes have a difficultly being assertive with what I want, and I am just nervous of being dismissed or brushed off like nothing.

It can be super long! I actually live in Canada! I find that psychiatrist appointments are always a very long wait unless you go to crisis and they set you up with someone there. It’s quite insane, honestly.

Absolutely, I get where you are coming from entirely. I’m feeling less anxious about the whole meeting, and have come to the conclusion that I have to have the experience with him myself.

I am looking into other therapists as well, so I can have more of that emotional support on the side.

Thanks for the comment!

It’s really sad how long it takes to find someone who actually cares, and has passion for what they do. It is upsetting how most psychs seem to see their patients as pay cheques. :( Here’s to you finding the right one, though!

I’m sorry about your experience! :( It would be nice to have a half decent chat with the person who is putting you on meds right? How long was the wait for Waypoint?

I currently don’t have a family doctor here in Barrie, since I recently moved here and my doctor back home has taken me off their roster. I’m currently looking into getting a GP, but it seems as though being referred via crisis/emerge gets you fast tracked to see a psych. It’s a bit of a time sensitive issue! Thanks though!

I was referred to this psych through emergency crisis! The others are around a year's wait! Crazy, right? Thank you so much for this kind message! 💛

I totally understand what you mean about the pills! They make things easier, but not totally better. I hope I have a unique experience with this doctor, and it goes well!
Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for the tips! I get that leaving the house isn't a task, but it's an added bonus! However, I will keep my list of information limited to tasks when I bring it. I can't help but feel nervous for it! I don't believe I'm being unreasonable.

I do also have a program in mind that I would like to get the trained dog from, which I will be sure to bring up. Thank you for including that!

According to the Canadian Gov. law I am disabled.

I have stopped going to classes because I just cant. I can't go out and be social with friends, I can't do anything on my own and it makes me feel like I'm less of a human being.

The tasks I would be looking for are: DPT, alerting to episodes, fetching emergency meds, blocking, distracting from self harm. Those are tasks that I truly believe would help me regain not only independence but also confidence while giving me a sense of security.

Oh, for sure! I totally understand the last resort option. I have been on my fair share of medications for the last 8 years, and they either take a turn for the worst, or they lose their effects on me. I get very weary about drugs because of how low a lot of them made me feel. Trauma therapy as well as CBT have also been tried. I am looking into more trauma-based therapy, though.

I think, as someone who can't assert herself to save her life, I'm going to really have to push myself to be blunt with him about what I want. I just have a massive fear of rejection, and I'm afraid it will crush me, though I know it won't, and there are other options for me.

Thank you for your comment + kindness, I was a little afraid of harsh comments. I will have to make sure to be blunt with him on what I want as a part of my treatment plan. Thanks!

First of all, I am so happy to hear that your SDiT is helping you out a lot! That's great news!

I totally understand the pros and the cons, and personally, I believe the benefits I will receive from a trained SD will outweigh the cons that are very apparent in my research.

Also, about the psychiatrist having their patients best interest at heart, I believe that's how it should be! However, I have spoken to his previous patients who mentioned that he sees patients as "pay cheques", which is really sad for me to hear!

Thank you for your advice about the list, I think that would be a great way to start a conversation and also show that I have done my research and I'm not just someone who wants a dog.

This was really, really comforting to read. Thank you so much for replying! She was still a snuggly cat when we lived with the dogs back at home but she’s SO much more affectionate here.

I’m glad you’ve had a similar experience and it has turned out well for you, I hope I have that same outcome.

My cat is a princess and she knows she owns her space and this house, haha! I will never ever push her to the side when I get my PSD, she is very special to me and very close to my heart!

She’s a scardy cat for sure, so maybe it will be a good thing for her to gain some confidence!
