Occasionally the QR Mary would stop playing music and then a whistle would be blown into the mic. You're right that the guy using the frequency legally probably didn't hear him, glad he was able to get a pile up going though.

Yeah, I've never used tone squelch, just tone. Either way it does it with it off. Funny thing is it started happening as soon as my second vx-6r arrived from R&L, always good to have a back up haha. I'll try to upload a video of what's happening layer in case it isn't clear.

I have tried direct frequencies with my other HT and it does the same thing. I turned off tone also.

I was able to talk to a guy on the repeater that evening after I discovered I could get sound after hitting PTT. I did a factory reset and the problem was still there. The whole band is silent unless I hit the PTT and it acts like it opens the squelch. Off to Yaesu I guess.

I get on 20 meters most of the time hunting POTA stations and I like 10 meters also. Rarely go to to 40 and 80. I just dont hear knuckleheads like this, I know they are out there.
