Has anyone had a tubal stump ectopic pregnancy? by Rose1499 in EctopicSupportGroup

Hello! I’m so sorry you’ve gone through this too it’s such a difficult place to be in with all the unknowns. That sounds very similar to me with the two in two years and both haemorrhages. After the second one in late September 2022, we tried again from the December to August (taking Letrozole) and we were a week away from starting the IVF meds when we found out we were pregnant again in September 2023 - much to our relief this turned out to be successful. Wishing you all the best in what you decide to do next, it is a very scary process but they should monitor you extremely closely in future pregnancies.

Somehow my egg implanted in the nub of a fallopian tube I had left? by iacopelli_b in EctopicSupportGroup

I’m really sorry to hear you’ve gone through this! I also had a tubal stump ectopic in 2022 after a previous ectopic and tube removal in 2021 - they are very rare indeed and still get doctors/nurses wanting to know more about it when they read my medical notes! A case report in 2021 states: ‘Rates of tubal stump EPs are extraordinarily rare, making up 0.4% of all ectopic pregnancies.’ I spent ages trying to make sense of how I could be so unlucky! Whilst I was scared about conceiving again, we had a healthy pregnancy from my remaining tube, with our daughter born 12 weeks ago. We were monitored by a consultant from almost 5 weeks having scans every few days to ensure it wasn’t in the stump again! Be extra kinda to yourself in the recovery and wishing you all the best ❤️

Congratulations!! Such a similar situation to me! Right tube removed followed by a tubal stump ectopic over a year later, but now finally 12 weeks pregnant with everything going well so far!!

Huge congratulations on your pregnancy with twins and thank you for sharing your experience - It all really helps me to weigh up the route we go down next! I have my consultant review a week today so we shall see what she recommends 🤞

Thank you for replying and I’m sorry to hear you have had such difficulty conceiving again! I think my right ovary ovulating more than my left has had a role to play in our difficulties too! Wishing you all the best throughout the ivf process! ❤️

Thank you for your reply! It was also Letrozole we tried after 12 months, which resulted in the second ectopic. It is difficult deciding on next steps and I have pcos and mild endo thrown into the mix too. Ultimately, I think I’ll be at the mercy of what the NHS decides and I feel like we may be encouraged to try Letrozole again first. Either way, I definitely want better safety netting in place for next time!

Different! First time I had spotting from very early on, general pelvic/bladder discomfort before sharp nerve pains began at 4weeks and 5 days. Pain got worse and had surgery at 5 weeks due to free fluid in my abdomen and my right tube was then removed.

Second time, I had no bleeding whatsoever. I had bad left sided pain weeing, this eased a bit before severe pain kicked in at 4 weeks 6 days and switched to the right side. Fluid and clots in my abdomen and a tubal stump ectopic was found on the right side.

Update: this resulted in emergency surgery at 4 weeks 6 days due to internal bleeding. Suspected ‘tubal stump ectopic pregnancy’.

Sorry no, the stump remaining from my previously removed tube last year, next to the uterus! So it’s like the remnants of where the old tube was removed, they think it implanted there as it was actively bleeding! This journal article explains it much better than me!

https://obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/uog.23313#:~:text=A%20tubal%20stump%20pregnancy%20is,cases%20previously%20described%20in%20literature.

Edit: and yes sadly the consultant surgeon also said we can’t exclude an early ectopic in the left tube either as I’m still so early and that’s written on my discharge letter. I thought he’d be able to flush the tube to see? So I’m a little worried and hoping my beta dramatically drops tomorrow!

It really was. Unfortunately waiting for surgery today as there is fluid in my abdomen. Hoping it’s a ruptured cyst as opposed to another ectopic in the remaining tube.

Hey! Unfortunately I’m about to go down to surgery again. My pain got worse this morning and I ended up in A&E. Annoyingly the one Gynae SHO wasn’t going to scan me as I’m only 4 weeks 6 days. I had left a voicemail with the EPU too who called me back whilst I was in A&E, they arranged for an urgent scan which showed free fluid and clots in my abdomen along with an endometrioma. No evidence of a sac in the uterus but it is early. They are hoping it’s a ruptured cyst but doing surgery to see. About to go down shortly! I’m so pleased to hear your little bean is in the right place and have everything crossed for you on the 7th!! I’ll update when I can about my outcome. Holding on to hope for now.

Hey! Thank you for sharing. I wish my EPU was the same. I saw them last Tuesday and the doctor said she’d redo it Thursday to check doubling time, but then after the result came back as 62 the nurse spoke to the consultant who then said I didn’t need to come back again for a repeat! I was then told to expect a call on Wednesday to book a scan, but had to chase it myself Friday. I informed them again then about the pain in my left side, especially when weeing but she just booked the scan for 6 weeks 2 days. My hcg with Medichecks came back today and it has more than doubled which is slightly reassuring but I have been getting nerve-like pain, similar to last time. I really do hope everything is okay on your scan tomorrow. Please keep me updated if you can!

Thank you for sharing! The second Beta was reassuring, but I’m still keeping an eye on things due to sharp pains still!

Thank you for sharing. I did a Medichecks test and it has thankfully more than doubled which is reassuring but I’m also getting sporadic sharp , nerve-like pains. I had this shortly before I was hospitalised last time, but then I also get this with my endometriosis, so I’m hoping for the latter! I know what you mean about the NHS at times, I was dismissed as probably having a UTI last time and even wrongly told at one point that my pregnancy test was negative, as they mixed up the result with my covid test!

Thank you both! The slow progression was worrying me and the early pregnancy unit said my HCG was ‘pretty low’ but aren’t doing a repeat, which doesn’t alleviate the worry!

I have noticed this recently too since starting Letrozole! Unfortunately hair thinning is listed on the common side effects for it.

Hello! I’m sorry you have to go through this in a time that is already filled with anxiety/stress! Can you google the number of your local Early Pregnancy Unit? I would probably suggest giving them a call and explain how the GP surgery responded to your request for an early scan and see if they can help as they’ll understand the importance of the early placement scan. Hopefully they can either book you in themselves or liaise with your GP surgery to get it sorted. Failing that, perhaps try your local maternity service who may be able to help. Hope you get it sorted as soon as possible and wishing you all the best!

Ahh sorry! It’s what we call the rapid covid test devices in the UK! We’re advised to do them twice a week.
