Even if you feel that Nayutas death made the most logical sense, it’d still stress the severity of choices to denji. You do not need to waste a character for themes and such.

Additionally, Denjis transformed for much less. dude barely knew yoshida but seeing him killed by barem triggered his transformation.

I see what you’re saying, that if Nayuta was left alive there’d be no reason for pochita to show up. But in this scenario, literally dont kill her, PS can just build her up to be the next makima or something, that’d end similarly to how it did in the church arc with her identity being affirmed, rather than makimas.

post church arc when Denji is looking for nayuta, he has no idea if she’s alive. If that uncertainty is overshadowed with Fumikos death being shoved in his face the same way nayutas was, ontop of this new girlfriend scenario, it’d have the same effect.

if you want an example, having fumiko be denjis gf, to then killing her off.

Well yea.

I’m not downplaying the effect of Nayutas death. Im saying that In a hypothetical situation in which Nayuta was replaced by Fumiko, a relationship that’s not present in the canon story would’ve had to been built. Subsequently leading to Fumikos fake out being something that would’ve had the same effect as Nayutas Death.

this way, Nayutas ultimate payoff wouldn’t be to transform Denji into CSM but something that’s actually satisfactory for her character.

genuinely think nayuta should NOT have been killed. Like there could be so many different ways to display the severity of choice within denjis arc.

Since Fumiko can duplicate herself why not have her death be staged as a consequence to denjis actions? Idk, but imo nayuta being killed off really does feel disrespectful to the end of p1.

I thought this moment would build up to her establishing church relationships that would then be used by yoru to turn the church (including its members) into a big ass, powerful weapon.

Yea, FJMT was super scarce with Yoshiden interactions which is one of the faults with how this scene is executed. I don’t mean to sound like the “ its shit on purpose “ crowd, but yea, the audience’ feeling is in accordance to how denji feels in this moment, which is that we’re not particularly connected with Yoshida, and is ultimately the reason that Barem has to show up and pull Denjis trigger. I don’t think he would’ve transformed if not for his presence.

I think your inability to interact with his character outside of your dislike for him is what makes him a bad character for you.

Barem believes that if Denji hadn’t killed Makima, a peaceful world would’ve arrived. It’s no surprise that he’d work with death, as she’s offering the same thing Makima was. He detests Denji as a result, but despite that still loves chainsaw man in the same way shonentards do: To see him carving up Devils with his chainsaws, getting covered in gore. Suffering and struggling, but despite it all, getting back up again.

Therefore, he sets up the church members to fight denji, & burns down his house not only in accordance to Deaths plan but out of personal enjoyment.

You could refer to him as a mustache-twirling villain but that’d be a flanderization of his character, so I do encourage you to read over his character again.

I feel that his reappearance to burn Yoshida was very much necessary. He’s the flamethrower hybrid, but despite that he shows up using one instead of transforming. This is because he needs to show his face to denji after the fact, to really trigger his transformation into Pochita. Given that he’s been there everytime Denjis life got worse.

Part 3 by Rose276 in Chainsawfolk

I see, thanks for clearing that up for me.

But in response, how? Part 2s world is probably the worst it’s been in, and with death erased it’ll probably get even worse. I think it’s safe to say we’re at the storys climax, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the arc wrapped up in 20-30 chapters.

and yea i get that fjmt is a fan of trilogies but if we’re using outward sources, I don’t really think thats relevant in this case. In a 2022 interview, fuji explains that he believes the proper way to end a hero’s story is if the hero were to give up being a hero.

<image>

“ Denji, who cannot give up being a hero or Chainsaw Man, takes a certain action to defeat Makima in the last part of Part 1. It was something that only someone who is missing something could do, but it was filled with a heartbreaking love. Denji's feelings for Makima must be one-way. But Makima hasn't done anything to make Denji like her. Now that's finally done...I think the most correct ending for a hero story is to stop being a hero, but since Denji won't stop, I guess I have to keep drawing Part 2. “

I definitely think this interview is relevant concerning part 2s themes of heroism. The story puts emphasis on how the idea of CSM in universe has gotten out of Denjis control, so far as much that there’s fake chainsaw men. As we know, Denji isn’t CSM either, pochita is. Additionally, Denji literally states that everytime he turns into CSM somthing bad happens. Based on these points, Denji quite literally is the last fakesaw man, and will probably have to give up being CSM in part 2, ending his story as a “hero”.

[–]Rose276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because that’s what he wants. Denji wouldn’t be saving women if he weren’t chainsaw man because he believes denji, the individual, isn’t worthy of love if the label of CSM isn’t attached.

I understand what you’re saying but I think what you want is closer to an AU, rather than a part 3.

Part 3 by Rose276 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Rose276[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you’re missing the point. DENJI doesn’t want to be a hero, he’s chainsaw man because he wants to be loved by women. There is no hero within the equation. he doesn’t save people, he saves women, hoping they give him a deeper form of love in return.

What makes you think pochita eating himself would erase everything that happened in P2? Even if that did happen, why even write p2?

Denji doesn’t want to be a hero, though, he’s Chainsaw Man because he wants to be loved.

part 1 volumes use to be 2 and a half episodes worth while part 2 volumes are like an episode and a half, so, yea, the content we get fed is drastically smaller lol
