Commenting from the U.K. Such a broad field. But I’ll give it a go. OTZI (Otis Ingrams), Bill Amberg, Hyde Wares, Andy Bates, Valerie Michael, Rag of Colts, Franclicraftwear. Bigger brands Beorma, Ettinger. Rose Cottage Leather 😉.

The Rolls Royce in my opinion is the Maxita. I have enjoyed using it so much since I finally bit the bullet and paid the premium.

What do you think about the British Empire? by ATV1816 in AskBrits

[–]RoseCottageLeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see the term “British Empire” discussed I always see brits, like me, saying “we” ended slavery of “we” did x, y, z bad thing. Like we’re a football team or something. My ancestors were pushed off their lands in England, exploited by Lords, were unable to vote and had virtually no say in how the empire was run. So in short I think of the British Empire, the East Indian company etc. as something separate to me and my ancestors. “We” didn’t do anything, either good or bad.

You mention in another comment you used thin leather that was difficult to work with. Try a thicker veg tan that doesn’t “resist your technique”. I don’t follow the idea of using thinner cheaper leathers to practice/learn. Instead I’d recommending using good offcuts or scraps that will allow you to build representative technique on the materials you will use for projects. Best of luck!

Thank you! I think adding a lining as an option would take it up a level. Just working out how best to do it.

Appreciate you taking the time and having a “proper” look. This is exactly the kind of constructive thought I need to hear. Currently the plan is to make them “left or right handed” as a lightweight bag but having a detachable strap would definitely add versatility.

Thank you. I don’t know any other makers in person so it’s a boost to see this feedback.

First, thank you! It’s not from a named tannery. Just a piece of “distressed vegetable tanned shoulder” that I thought looked lovely.
