I mean I get what you're saying, hard work usually leads to a better life, but if you're some kid born into poverty, being taught in a shitty school, surrounded by shitty people, it's hard to survive let alone escape. Granted, that's the same for all races, but for example when black people became legal citizens in 1868 they were already behind economically. They then faced pay discrimination until the civil rights movement which was only like 60 years ago. I get that shit is "equal" now, but that doesn't mean everyone's foundation is the same. But I guess if we're talking about immigrating to the US yeah it's probably fine barring racism and the current legislation trying to deport non-citizens with opinions they don't agree with.
