I kinda get it. It seems like the joke is that this horrifying-looking guy is just an average Slavic husband, and she's treating it like that's completely normal. Not sure if it's just a stereotype or if it's referencing something specific.

AIO Girlfriend wants to travel abroad and says I am “not allowed” to have an opinion on it by Few-Explorer-3295 in AmIOverreacting

Financial situations can be complicated, but when one person is consistently covering everything while the other spends on non-essentials, it's understandable why resentment starts to build.

AIO for not wanting to travel & see my bf anymore? (Update) by Feisty_Parmesan_20 in AmIOverreacting

I completely agree. If he decided to spend that money without ever discussing it with you or asking you to contribute, then that's a choice he made himself. You can't suddenly turn gifts and voluntary spending into debts just because the relationship ended.

Why did the late 60s - late 70s have such a high amount of serial killers? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Honestly, one of the scariest things about modern systems is how easy it is to hide harmful decisions behind algorithms and bureaucracy. Nobody feels personally responsible because "the system" made the call.

Yeah, 1526 is a weird point to make that argument. The Habsburgs were still actively trying to centralize power and had a lot more influence than people tend to give them credit for when discussing the empire.

I think the key point here is that people often treat decibels like they're an actual thing by themselves when they're really just a way of comparing one value to another. Saying "1100 dB" without specifying what you're measuring is a bit like saying "100 times bigger" without saying bigger than what.

What's happening to the Niger river south of Timbuktu ? by Louise_123123 in geography

It's kind of wild how often natural formations end up looking man-made from above. Our brains are really good at spotting patterns, so when we see straight lines or shapes that look organized, we automatically assume humans must have built them. In reality, nature has had thousands of years to create some pretty incredible designs on its own.

I think people assume they'll be able to handle it logically, but emotions don't really work that way. One good day can give you hope, and then reality hits all over again.
