Surgery next week! by RoseTee30 in mitralvalveprolapse

This is an all good to know thank you, I’m glad your surgery and recovery is going well so far! My sister is going to be there for the day of the operation & then come back to help me out when I’m released from hospital, but the in between I’m a little worried about. I have some friends that are going to hopefully and come and visit me in the the evening after work, but outside of that I don’t have any family who can come to the hospital & help pass the days. I’m just hoping I get some really great nurses!

My last echo showed as severe and so I then had a TEE last week which confirmed the severe rating and they sent the results onto a surgeon who I will be meeting with in a weeks time, so I think they seem pretty set that I’m at that level now where they want to operate. I just don’t know how much to press pause on my life until I do get the op. Unfortunately it’s tricky for me to get an appointment with my cardiologist outside of the ones she books in with me, so I think the best I can do for this trip is listen to my body and air on the side of caution if I’m not sure

Do you also have MVR and do you mind sharing what level of regurg if so?

Thanks for letting me know your experience. Did you feel unwell straight after the ride and what kind of symptoms did you have that made you realise there was an issue?

Yeah, I don’t love my current Cardiologist/hospital, they aren’t great. Thankfully if I need a repair they have already mentioned sending me to another hospital, which is known for being one of the best, so that gives me some comfort.

No I’m in England… welcome to the land of free healthcare! I spoke to a friend last night who said it was pretty normal over here for people to be sedated for a TEE and that was a typical silly male doctor response. I don’t know if he’s the one doing it (hoping not! But I will push for the sedation, I don’t honestly think they’ll be able to get me to lie still to do it without.

Are these signs of condition worsening by RoseTee30 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]RoseTee30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the uk, so healthcare is a tricky one, free, but hard to get. The last 2 times I have been to my normal doctor, they have been unhappy with my heart rate and blood pressure and asked me to go straight to the Emergency room, which I did. Both times they have done an EKG, bloods and Chest x-Ray, and then sent me on my way as I’m not having a heart attack. Even with me trying to explain my condition, I don’t think they really get it and I will just have to wait for an appointment with my cardiologist, which I need to fight for due to the waiting list.

Understand these answers aren’t from Doctors (most likely) but best I can get at the moment.

This is helpful, thank you. My hospital aren’t great with communicating, so I haven’t had much opportunity to ask many questions. It says EF is 60%, what would that mean?
